Dental Care
Your pet’s world revolves around its mouth, and that makes dental care vital to his or her overall health and longevity. In this way, they are just like people. The fact is that most pets over three already have some signs of periodontal (dental) disease.
Vaccination
Vaccinations are a relatively inexpensive but essential way to prevent many illnesses and diseases that can be life-threatening and may even be zoonotic, meaning they can be passed to humans. Even pets who live primarily indoors should be vaccinated, as they can still be exposed to disease.
Behavioral Counseling
Finally, make sure to let us know about any behavior changes in your pet. Once dogs and cat get to the geriatric stage, monitoring for signs of cognitive dysfunction—such as accidents, getting lost or wandering aimlessly—is very important.
Comprehensive Examination
We recommend an annual wellness exam to ensure your exotic pet is healthy, and these exams give us a baseline for future reference in the event your pet ever falls ill. Annual exams also provide you with time with our veterinarians to answer all your health, behavior, environmental, and nutrition questions.

Parasites Treatment and Control
Annual heartworm testing and regular heartworm prevention are also very important, because this potentially deadly parasite is on the rise in our region of the country. Mosquitos can transmit the deadly worms to pets through just one bite. Sadly, many animals don’t show symptoms until the disease is advanced, if at all. While there is treatment for canines, it is expensive and can be very hard on your pet. (There is no heartworm cure for cats.)

Just like people, pets can suffer lingering effects and discomfort from injuries or a surgical procedures. You might also talk to your veterinarian about a leptospirosis vaccine if your dog is like so many in our area that go on hikes into rural areas or spend a lot of time outdoors where there’s wildlife.

Arthritis Treatment
One of the most common conditions seen in elder pets is osteoarthritis. General symptoms in dogs include limping, spinal issues like a hunch or a back that is sensitive to touch, tiredness, loss of muscle and constant licking, chewing or biting sensitive areas. In cats, the symptoms may be more subtle, but usually a reluctance to jump or leap up as before is a tell-tale sign. We can help your arthritic pet feel more comfortable utilizing a variety of treatments including medication and physical therapy.

We recommend yearly dental cleaning, in most healthy adult pets, to prevent serious dental disease. During a routine dental procedure, full mouth xrays are obtained, along with a deep cleaning, beneath the gums as well, so that the veterinarian can identify potential problems. Unfortunately, many pet parents don’t pay attention to realize trouble is brewing in their pet’s mouth until symptoms are present. These symptoms can range from they’re forced to do so by terrible breath and mild drooling to more serious issues such as swelling on the face. At that point Once symptoms are noticeable there is a potential that more invasive procedures will be needed to correct the issue, such as extractions or oral surgery. Just like humans, if the periodontal disease is very advanced, bacteria may have already can spread to internal organs, causing serious illness and perhaps even shortening the life of your pet.
