DUI/DWI
Drunk driving kills and injures many people in the U.S. every year. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 11,654 people died in alcohol-related crashes in 2020, at a rate of one fatality every 45 minutes. In California alone, there were 949 deaths in accidents involving drivers with blood alcohol content of.08 percent or higher, accounting for 26.3 percent of all traffic fatalities statewide.

Assault
Like with any other civil suit, the claimant must prove that his or her loved one died as a result of the liable party's actions, or lack of action. Material evidence and testimony are often needed to accomplish this, especially if the liable party disputes the claim.
Murder
In a highly publicized case, Joseph Low acquired a dismissal of murder charges against a Camp Pendleton Marine accused of shooting an unarmed Iraqi in the heat of battle in Fallujah. The defendant, Marine Sergeant Jermaine Nelson, was involved in one of the most vicious battles of the Iraq war. Murder charges were dropped against three Camp Pendleton Marines. Sgt. Jermaine Nelson agreed to plead guilty to dereliction of duty. In exchange, he received an honorable discharge.
Kidnapping
CAMP PENDLETON - Military prosecutors on Friday dropped assault charge they had levied against a Camp Pendleton corporal who is also charged with the kidnapping and slaying of a retired Iraqi policeman, a Marine Corps spokesman said.
Manslaughter
In August, Weemer and Nelson's squad leader at Fallujah, former Marine Sgt. Jose L. Nazario Jr., was acquitted on two counts of manslaughter by a civilian jury that heard his case in U.S. District Court in Riverside. Nazario was tried as a civilian because he had left the Marine Corps and was not subject to recall into the service.
Hit and Run
