New patients receive a comprehensive exam, all necessary x-rays, and a consultation where your doctor will discuss your personalized treatment options. Our practice team will review your insurance and discuss financial options to allow you to get the care you need.
X-rays
Once completed, a member of our team will escort you from the waiting room to a treatment room where they will review your dental history, medical history, and any dental health concerns or issues. The dental assistant will then take digital x-rays for the doctor to review. Radiation from digital dental x-rays is very low, especially in comparison to traditional x-rays. For more information, speak with your dentist or dental assistant.
Oral Cancer Screening
Our dentists invest their time in the community from running oral cancer screening clinics, to volunteering, supporting local events, and donating their time. Many of our doctors grew up in the communities they serve!
A dentist or a dental hygienist will perform your routine teeth cleaning by removing built up plaque and tartar, flossing, and polishing your teeth. Regular cleaning is important to prevent gum diseases, cavities, bad breath, and other dental problems. Cleaning should be regular and must be scheduled at least twice a year.
Fluoride Treatment
An overview of your mouth and gums will be followed by an oral cancer screening, then a thorough cleaning and polishing of your teeth. Your hygienist may clean your teeth manually with traditional tools or use an advanced water powered instrument based on what is best for your specific needs. Fluoride treatments are recommended by the ADA for adults as well as children, and your dental hygienist may recommend treatment.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are a thin layer of a plastic-based substance that when applied to the teeth prevent plaque and food particles from gathering in the deep grooves of your tooth’s surface. Sealants on permanent molars reduce the risk of cavities by 80%.
This type of dental restoration procedure is used to repair tooth damage from decay, cavities, fractures, and chipping. Created from white composite resin, this tooth-colored material is often offered in a variety of shades to match the natural color of your teeth.
Veneers
Porcelain veneers are an ideal choice to improve your smile. Veneers are virtually undetectable and are resistant to staining. Simple and versatile, affordable porcelain veneers can dramatically improve your smile.
Crowns
A crown (or cap) is a protective restoration that covers the entire surface of a tooth and restores it to its original size and shape. When a tooth cannot be restored with a filling, a crown is used to protect and strengthen the tooth structure.

Removal of a portion of the pulp, including the diseased aspect, with the intent of maintaining the vitality of the remaining pulpal tissue by means of a therapeutic dressing.
Root Canal Treatment
A root canal treatment is done to save a tooth that is infected and causing pain and would otherwise need to be extracted. Performing a root canal to save the natural tooth is always preferred over an extraction.
There are several stages of gum disease, Gingivitis, which is the early stage of gum disease, to slight, moderate, and advanced periodontitis. Gingivitis or early gum disease is treatable and, in many cases, reversible with the non-invasive hygiene visit. This procedure is called gingivitis therapy. Periodontal therapy is a “deep cleaning” that targets the area above and below your gum line, where flossing and brushing cannot reach. Our qualified dental hygienists and dentists will remove the plaque, calculus( tartar ), and bacteria hiding below the gum line and on the surface of the teeth. By eliminating the bacteria, swelling will decrease. Most, if not all, bleeding will stop, and the gum tissue will reattach to the teeth, preventing further bone and tooth loss.

Flap Surgery
Gum Surgery
In advanced periodontitis, treatment may require gum surgery along with regenerative procedures to help restore lost gum tissue or bone grafting to help regenerate and stabilize the bone. Regular dental check-ups and cleaning can help catch the disease early and safeguard against the progression of gum disease to an advanced stage.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the specialty of dentistry which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region.
Tooth Extractions
However, if the damage goes past the tooth pulp, your dentist may not be able to repair the tooth, and a dental extraction procedure may be needed. If the tooth is severely damaged, even if your dentist is able to repair it, there is still a risk of tooth decay or an infection that can require an extraction in the future.
Bone Grafting
Oral surgeons at Great Lakes Family Dental have completed training in a variety of dental surgical techniques including tooth extractions, wisdom teeth removal, and bone grafting. They're trained to address diseases impacting the gums, teeth, and mouth such as periodontal disease.
