Maple Tree Inn

We tried this place based on a good review on Check, Please - it is difficult to find quality cuisine south of the city, but Maple Tree Inn is well worth the drive. The menu is primarily cajun-influenced, but not in a kitschy way. The pork medallions in bourbon sauce were sublime. The kids were a little weirded-out by the menu (there are not too many places where you can get fried green tomatoes and batter-fried pickles!) but loved their choices. The prices are a bit steep, but the entire dining experience was enjoyable. Act quickly - the owners are planning to retire in January 2009, and are looking for a buyer. It is hoped that the top-tier dining will continue. One note, from my high horse: we would have never come here before the smoking ban in Illinois - it is a bar, after all.
