Oral Cancer Screening
In the US, oral cancer claims one life each hour on average, and more than half of those diagnosed each year do not live more than five years following diagnosis. Most doctors and researchers agree that, diagnosed in the early stages, oral cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer. According to some recent research conducted by the Oral Cancer Foundation, disparity between the high number of deaths associated with oral cancer and the research that references oral cancer as one of the most treatable forms of cancer is the stage of diagnosis. These researchers concluded that early diagnosis was the best way to begin decreasing the number of deaths attributed to oral cancer. That’s why our dentists include oral cancer screening using the Velscope system as part of every six month checkup.

Teeth Cleaning
In keeping with the American Dental Association recommended best practices, we encourage patients to visit our office at least two times each year for a dental checkup and teeth cleaning. At each six month checkup, we carefully examine patients’ smiles screening for common oral health issues including oral cancer, periodontal disease, tooth decay, and more. We use x-rays and visual examination to find decayed or damaged areas on each tooth and evaluate existing restorations for signs of wear. We’ll carefully explain treatment options with patients, and work with them to determine the best course of action. We’re also happy to replace existing metal restorations with more cosmetic solutions, if patients would prefer these tooth-colored treatments.
Dental Sealants
Absolutely. Our dentists have years of experience working with young patients, and we offer a variety of children’s dentistry services including dental sealants and early interceptive orthodontics.

Fillings
For an hour following your visit, do not chew. Wait until numbness subsides before eating. If you had amalgam fillings placed, do not chew for 24 hours.
Resin Composite
Many patients and dentists believe the less durable composite resin will not offer results that are as long lasting as the stronger amalgam materials. However, research has shown that composites last seven to ten years on average, which is as long or longer than the typical amalgam filling.
Veneers
Patients with a number of cosmetic flaws may want to consider one fast, effective solution to correct them all – porcelain veneers. Veneers are thin sheaths of dental grade porcelain that are custom crafted to fit over the front facing surface of teeth effectively concealing flaws, protecting damaged teeth, and correcting orthodontic irregularities like crooked or unevenly spaced teeth. The process takes place over the course of two appointments. During the initial visit, we remove a small amount of surface enamel to allow the veneer to lay flat within the smile line. Then, we capture impressions that are sent to our trusted dental lab where the custom veneer is made, and we place a temporary veneer to protect the prepared teeth. Once we receive the custom restoration from the lab, patients return to exchange the temporary for their custom crafted porcelain veneer.

Replacing teeth used to mean restoring just those parts of teeth that are visible when patients smile, but over the years, dentists began to realize these restorations did not fully renew oral health the way replacing an entire tooth, both roots and crowns, could. Dental Bonding

Root Canal Treatment
Root canals have a bad reputation for being painful, but actually, they are safe and comfortable. In most cases, patients actually experience significant pain relief as a result of root canal therapy. This procedure is necessary when decay or damage accesses the innermost layer of the tooth. This dental layer includes soft tissue known as pulp as well as the entire nerve system of the tooth which runs through the pulp and root canals to the gum tissue. Root canals remove the entire damaged pulp and nerve tissue, replace it with comparable synthetic tissue, and reseal the treated tooth. In many cases, we recommend placing a dental crown over the root canal treated tooth in order to protect and fortify the dental structure.
