Rheumatoid arthritis, aka “inflammatory arthritis,” is also fairly common, although it is not as easily understood. It develops as an autoimmune response, meaning that the immune system sees the joints as a threat and decides to attack them. Treatments for your neck pain will most likely include manual or “hands-on” therapy, which consists of special techniques designed to reduce the stiffness of your neck and improve its range of motion. Our Glenn Dale and Clinton physical therapists will also provide you with targeted exercises that will strengthen, build, and improve the muscles and tissues in your neck. We will focus on improving your posture to aid in the recovery of your neck muscles, as well as avoiding re-injury in the future. Additional treatment services may include ice and heat therapy, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation, as our physical therapist deems fit.

Sciatica
While back pain and sciatica are similar, they still have their differences and are often confused with one another. Back pain is found specifically in the upper, middle or lower back. Sciatica is a more diffuse, radiating pain down the buttock, thigh, and even leg. It is also possible to have radiculopathy, which is a radiating numbness, tingling, burning, or sharp pain to a specific part of the leg. This is often associated with a herniated disc, or entrapment of the nerve in that area, as it exits the spine.
Whiplash
Musculoskeletal headaches occur when there are significant amounts of tension in the neck. This is typically a result of physical imbalances, weaknesses, or damage, although emotional tension (such as stress) can also be a contributing factor. A traumatic injury to the neck, such as whiplash, is a common cause of musculoskeletal headaches. With neck injuries such as whiplash, the muscles and connective tissues in the neck can become torn or strained. This can lead to agonizing pain felt in the head, as well as in the face, shoulders, or neck.

I had my second hip replacement recently, the last being 12 years ago. The care I received at Evidence was excellent. I was pleased how they pushed me, but not too hard, not beyond my capabilities. Upon completion of the program I was not only back to where I had been just before surgery, but to where I had been before the hip began to degenerate.
Knee Replacement
I was impressed with the service, the skill and the concern along with the special attention given to my husband at Evidence Physical Therapy. I would like to acknowledge the care and treatment in the exercises given to rehabilitate my husband's second knee replacement from his Therapist Neha Prajapati she was wonderful and patient the entire time, and encouraging when I was at times impatient wmy husband due to stress with relocating to a new house. Dry Needling is an invasive procedure in which filiform needles are introduced into the skin and tissues below as an effective treatment for trigger points in muscles that cause headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, sports injuries, hamstring pulls, tennis elbow, tight muscles, strains and radiating pain. Dry Needling can be administered to most parts of the body including the neck, back, legs, arms, foot, face, jaw and hip.

Frozen Shoulder
Also known as “adhesive capsulitis,” frozen shoulder can occur if your arm has been in a cast or sling for a while, or if you have been bedridden for an extended period of time. It results in a painful loss of motion in the shoulder with a tightening of the shoulder joint that severely limits motion. There are some ethnicities that are more predisposed, and women tend to have more instances than men. Frozen shoulder is more common in women in the 40-60 years of age.
Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow refers to pain on the lateral or outside aspect of the elbow, whereas golfer’s elbow refers to pain on the medial or inside aspect of the elbow. Both of these injuries are a result of repetitive use injuries and can be attributed to a variety of different tasks, not just the sports they are named after. Physical therapy is the best treatment for either of these conditions, because it restores the underlying joint and soft tissue limitations that are causing strain to the tendons, and reduces the inflammation quite rapidly.

Acute pain can be defined as pain that goes away on its own in a few hours, days, or weeks. The example of a minor ankle sprain would be considered acute pain, as the pain will subside shortly within a few days.

Other potentially treatable conditions include patellofemoral knee pain, shin splints, achilles tendonitis, and bunions, as well as numerous systemic pathologies that (like diabetes) affect the function of the lower limbs. A strain occurs when a muscle is stretched, while a sprain occurs when a ligament is stretched too far or torn. The ligaments in the outside of the ankle are the most commonly injured as is common in a twisted ankle. Multiple ankle sprains can lead to ankle instability, pain, difficulty walking and in severe cases arthritis in the ankle.

Flat Feet
Your foot contains several tendons that work together to form your arch. When the tendons pull together properly, your foot will form a proper arch. However, when the tendons do not pull together properly, your foot will form a very small arch or no arch at all. This is referred to as “fallen arch” or “flat foot” and can cause pain or discomfort with time.
Heel Spurs
This is a bony protrusion on the heel that is usually made of some sort of calcium build-up. While the actual spurs are not painful they can poke the tissues in the heel and potentially cause severe pain. Many of the same risk factors that cause plantar fasciitis can also cause heel spurs.

Metatarsalgia
This is a painful disorder that affects the joints and bones along the ball of the foot. This condition is often caused by ill-fitting footwear or restrictive footwear. Orthotics are usually recommended to help reduce pain caused by metatarsalgia.
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation in the connective tissue on the bottom of your foot just in front of the calcaneal bone This can occur from aggravated overuse, such as constant standing, improper posture, or footwear that lacks proper arch support. The pain is usually worse especially when getting out of the bed in the mornings, standing or walking after a period of prolonged sitting.
