Although I'm not an official restaurant critic, after my visit to the new Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. in Boynton Beach during their grand opening, I feel compelled to write one..even if it's an amateur review. We drove all the way from Orlando just to see it and experience it. And that's what it was... an experience, not just a random stop for bagels on a sunday afternoon.
You immediately feel welcome upon entering and are seemingly enveloped into the unique world of Brooklyn. It's a feast for all senses. There are so many things to look at, from the wall paper filled with names of "Brooklyn-ites" (that you can hear everyone reading) to the recipes on the wall to the "Welcome Back Kotter" show playing on the flat panel screens, all of which you can see while waiting on line, although the line moves very quickly thanks to the courteous and quick service. The staff seemed to work together rather seamlessly, especially considering they had been open only a few days.
The focal point is their glass-enclosed bagel-making viewing area. As their tag line mentions, "it's all about the water" and it is there that the magic happens. There are many other touches of Brooklyn noticeable throughout the place. There are sufficient tables and booths (for now anyway, tho I would anticipate growth in the future) and after you place your order at the counter, the food is brought to your table within a matter of minutes.
The aroma that surrounds you upon entering the store is heavenly. The menu has plenty to choose from, including some classics. We chose one of their signature 3-egg bagel sandwiches. A sandwich you call it? I call it a meal! The presentation was beautiful and the sandwich was incredible. The bagel had great flavor (wow, a real rye bagel!) and the eggs were like a hearty omelet tucked between the bagel halves. Their attention to detail is clearly evident. The bagel is neatly wrapped in 2 halves which makes it easy to eat. Of course, I could not pass up their signature iced coffee with those refreshing frozen coffee ice cubes....yum! And did I mention those amazing muffins?? The blueberry muffin had melt in your mouth flavor. The blueberries were not only real, but fresh.
Heading back to Orlando, I just don't think I can enjoy Einstein's or Paneras anymore now that we've experienced a little piece of Brooklyn heaven. I highly recommend you stop by and experience it for yourself. They are open 5 days/week so you have plenty of opportunity!
Mazel Tov and Best of Luck to the owners, Allan & Gayle Lampert, who can be found mingling with their guests throughout the day.
