Brattleboro Fire Department, founded in 1831, protects life and property of the residents of Brattleboro, Vt., from the effects of fire and various other emergencies. Its members present various fire safety and educational programs to different groups throughout the community. Various programs offered by the department include fire and home safety programs for public and private elementary schools, Firefighter Phil program for grades K-3, fire extinguisher training for local businesses, industries and health care facilities, and emergency planning and exit drills for schools and businesses. Its other programs include fire safety programs for specialty groups, including new mothers, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the elderly, as well as participate in various community, and other organizational and business-sponsored events. Brattleboro Fire Department also provides a diving squad, and educated children about the dangers of fire.
