I was in town, excited to try out a new restaurant. A "built to order" sandwich shop, but somehow upscale. I was with a large group, so there was a variety of selections ordered: sandwiches, omelets, quiche, taco salad, and some accouterments.
My choice was the vegetarian taco salad. It was $9, and was a basic side salad with a spicy dressing, and 9 chips stuck around the edges. The lettuce was not carefully picked, so there were a number of mashed (rotten?) leaves, and it was not large enough to be called a meal. $9 . . . sheesh!
The sandwiches have some variety built in, depending on the bread. The marble rye is a thick cut slice, while the wheat is thin cut. Since there was no display or pictures showing what to expect, it was a surprise to see the difference in size, with the same toppings. *Bags* of chips were served, which should not have surprised me as much as it did.
For the kids meal, a 20 oz styrofoam coffeecup with a plastic lid is the delivery mechanism. Not designed for kids younger than 4-5, I think.
The coffee is free refills, but the pitcher where you get coffee is actually behind all the condiments, and not easy to get to. It is just above the garbage. So you will likely have to dance with anyone getting napkins or flatwear.
The orders were taken the old-fashioned way . . . by questioning what it is you really meant when you checked two extra breads, and what you meant when you didn't notice one of the 50 (yes, 50) check boxes that might relate to your order. Very slow for new comers, so we created quite a line behind us.
As a final concern, the chairs have tall backs. One of these caught my sleeve as I walked by with the tray, and a kid almost fell backwards because they end up being top-heavy.
Despite this, the day we went -- Sunday -- there was a good cook on the grill. So the omelets were delectable, worth the price.
If I am looking for a place to have an omelet -- alone, and not with a group -- this might be an option. Beyond that, I think it would have been far better to go to Perkins or other family restaurants, since there at least you don't have to continuously go get one thing or another, and you might feel it is possible to send something back that you don't like.
