Feline Leukemia virus (recombinant vaccine) Recommended vaccination interval: Administered at 8+ weeks of age and repeated 3 weeks later. Regarding our Feline friends recent studies have demonstrated that adult cats over 4 years of age with previous Feline Leukemia vaccination have sufficiently enhanced immunity against Feline Leukemia virus and no longer warrant annual revaccination. The BVC has elected to decrease the frequency of administration of Feline Leukemia vaccines after age 4 to once every 3 years in those cats at risk of exposure to Feline Leukemia (i.e. outdoor cats or cats visiting/interacting with other outdoor or other at risk cats).

A Veterinary technician will be monitoring your pet while under anesthesia. We also use state-of-the art monitoring equipment to measure such parameters as ECG (electrical activity of the heart), Blood Pressure (to ensure the heart is delivering blood adequately throughout the body), and Pulse Oximetry (tracking the level of oxygen being delivered by the blood through the body). We also maintain a detailed record of the anesthetic event recording vital signs/condition throughout the surgery. Your pet’s body temperature will be supported with a circulating, warm water blanket.

Acupuncture can also compliment the effects of western medicine, especially in the treatment of chronic conditions. The addition of acupuncture to an established treatment regimen can improve clinical outcome. Acupuncture can potentiate the positive effects of western medicine in conditions like inflammatory bowel disease and osteoarthritis. It can also be used to palliate the adverse effects of western medications, such as antibiotic-induced diarrhea or side effects from chemotherapy.

Wound and Fracture Care
Tooth extraction, fracture repair and oral surgery are all performed by Dr. Esherick. Pet owners are also provided with recommendations for daily home oral hygiene specific to your pet along with a no fee follow-up exam two weeks after the dental procedure.

I have been a small animal veterinary practitioner now for over 30 years. I pursued my veterinary education at Ross School of Veterinary Medicine at St Kitts in the British West Indies and matriculated in 1989. Post-graduation, I left my home state of Maryland and took on my first 5 years of development and training at a multiple hospital referral and emergency facility here in Connecticut where I had extensive training and developed experience in multiple disciplines including internal medicine, surgery, oncology, ultrasound and endoscopy. In 1995 the opportunity came my way to practice in my new hometown of Burlington where I could be the practice leader and design my own veterinary practice culture. I purchased the facility from the former owners in 1999. In 2013-14 we remodeled the facility to accommodate my new associate Dr. Trevino and provide a physical plant that would not only be state of the art in capability but also facilitate our entire team in providing the best in advanced general veterinary surgery and medicine.

Professional dental cleaning removes dental plaque and tartar that causes periodontal disease. Full mouth radiographs are performed with advanced digital dental radiograph equipment to insure there is not undetected dental pathology. The Burlington Veterinary Center Dental Packages all include pre-anesthetic examination, pre-anesthetic sedation, IV catheter, IV fluids, gas anesthesia, a dedicated dental technician, dental scaling, dental polishing, fluoride treatment, digital dental x-rays, before and after pictures, 2 week medical progress exam, and a home dental care kit.
