I'm very disappointed in the level of service that the Canton Police Department provides on a daily basis. I have written numerous letters of concern/complaint regarding traffic violations in one specific area within the town. It took until the 6th communication with this police department to receive any type of response. When they did respond they simply told me that the area was patrolled on a regular basis and that its hard to catch violations in marked patrol cars. There are many blatant traffic violations including stop sign, failure to use directionals, speeding, etc right outside an active playground and ball field every hour of the day and night. The Officers of the Canton Police fail to patrol this area or issue violations for these offenses, even after my many letters to the department. There have been multiple traffic related fatalities within the last year that could have been prevented by a simple traffic stop by Canton Police. Traffic stops for basic traffic violations can lead to more serious violations, illegal activity and can prevent fatalities. Canton Police failed these victims in my opinion.
Also, other areas of town are heavily neglected by the Canton Police department, which include the whole length of Rt. 138 and Washington St. going through the center of town. I have never seen a traffic stop on Rt. 138 in the 3 years that I have lived in the area. This is a heavily used road that alot of people choose to speed on and they get away with it. I respect any officer that volunteers to put his/her life on the line to do the job, but if you don't fulfill the role of the job then you need to step aside.
I'm choosing to not purchase a home within Canton, MA because of the neglect of the Canton Police Department to do the work that they are charged with doing. They are really good at washing their cruisers and blocking traffic for any little event that might want special attention.
UPDATE 8/2014
I have still not seen any increased effort by Canton Police to address the issues that are so obvious within Canton and that I have continue to write them about. No responses to emails or letters. No increases in enforcement action or increased level of patrol. If I happened to see a cruiser, they are driving 15 MPH over the speed limit trying to get back to the station ASAP !! Disappointing and Irresponsible !!
