General Info
Started in 1977 by Peter Barnett, PT, DPT, OCS, Suburban has been a physical therapy alternative to institutional and corporate health care settings. Twenty minutes from the Lincoln Tunnel or George Washington Bridge, we offer rehabilitation to the Metropolitan patient community in a park-like setting. We continue to be a private practice out-patient environment with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Suburban specializes in orthopedic physical therapy, sports medicine, pediatric physical therapy, balance disorders, TMJ disorders, Work/Functional Capacity Evaluations, and ergonomic analysis. Selectively, we also have patients with neurological conditions such as brain attacks ( strokes ), Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis. We offer a full complement of treatment modalities for injuries of the spine, extremities, and TMJ. The patient ages have ranged from 8 weeks to 102 years. In addition to treating patients daily, the Suburban's staff is involved in our local public, philanthropic, and school communities. We offer educational seminars and various group exercise classes. Our annual Health Fair held in conjunction with the Cedar Grove Rotary's 5K Race targets local community needs. Suburban's staff helps to organize and run the Passaic Valley - Little Falls Rotary Club/Passaic Valley High School Annual 5K Fund Raiser. As health & fitness educators, the clinicians partner with the faculty and coaching staffs of area schools consulting in the strength and conditioning programs of athletes, guest lecturing in the health and science classes, and serving as role models of community minded professionals for work study programs and annual job fairs. With New Jersey as a Direct Access state, only Medicare patients still require a prescription. Therefore individuals with non-Medicare coverage may refer themselves directly ; including when, among others, a physician, dentist, chiropractor, osteopath, nurse practitioner, family member, or friend suggests it. Worker Compensation Insurance Carriers often refer to our facility. Our clinical staff of physical therapist doctors & orthopedic clinical specialists, develop individual treatment programs based on the diagnostic work-up and physical demands of the patient. Suburban has been participating locally in the Department of Health and Human Service's national "Healthy People 2010" program ; addressing four of the 10 Leading Health Indicators identified as major public health concerns in the United States: Physical Activity, Overweight and Obesity, Immunization, and Access to Health Care. Emphasis is also placed on patient self-reliance. All patients receive instruction in comprehensive home exercise programs.
