Established in 1818, the Chambersburg Police department is a full-service law enforcement agency that maintains law and order and protects residents lives and their property. It operates patrol, K-9, traffic and records divisions. The department has a criminal investigation division that undertakes cases related to homicide, murder, sexual assault, drug abuse and property crime. The Chambersburg Police department s accident reconstruction team investigates accidents and determines factors and causes, such as speed during the crash, seat belt usage and faulty vehicle equipment. It has a special emergency team that handles hostage crisis, barricaded gunman and high-risk warrant situations. The department also employs a school resource officer. The Chambersburg Police department supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) program, which focuses on the prevention of illegal usage of drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. It is located in Chambersburg, Pa.
