This contractor told us prior to the start that the job would be finished in "a month and a half, worst case scenario." Four and a half months later, the job was still not complete. While the quality of the workmanship was fine, the contractor has no regard for the time schedule. Jim actually told us, "I don't care about word of mouth." He did not demonstrate competence coordinating as a contractor should; he gave constant excuses for missed appointments by subs, provided subs with inaccurate information (e.g., the totally wrong paint color), used subs who were clearly in violation of the law (one had a boy turning wrenches—the boy told us he was 14, another used numerous non-English speaking employees who were unlikely to be e-Verified). After violating terms of the contract in multiple ways and before completing the work, the contractor then tried to bill us for the final installment. As we tried to get the job completed by withholding the final installment, the contractor indicated he would not complete the work unless we signed an agreement not to file any complaints about him (perhaps this is how BBB still accredits some contractors?). We finally looked up his criminal background and history of leins, and we encourage others to do the same prior to letting this man in your house. We eventually paid him the final installment to get him out of our lives, and we will have the job completed at our own expense.
