My husband has been a patient of Dr. Hislop for severe PAD. When we thought nothing more could be done to help him, we were referred to Dr. Hislop. Today we went to my husband's 2 week follow up after surgery. We went to the office in North Charleston. The staff were wonderful. Dr. Hislop took time to explain future care and encouraged my husband to keep up the good work in exercise and weight loss. I would recommend Dr. Hislop and Costal Vascular and Vein Center.

Ultrasound
You will have an ultrasound imaging exam of the leg that is to be treated. This exam is important for assessing the diseased superficial vein and planning the procedure.

General Surgery
Dr. Rehfuss grew up in Roswell, GA and graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and subsequently moved to Gainesville, FL where he completed both a General Surgery residency and a Vascular Surgery fellowship at the University of Florida. He is board certified in both General Surgery and Vascular Surgery and holds certification as a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI).
Wound Care
For the past twenty-three years, Steve Deaton has provided innovative, advanced care for amputees. Initially, Steve became a certified prosthetic technician to learn the industry from the ground up. After working in fabrication, he earned a graduate degree from Northwestern University in prosthetics. His team approach utilizes the unique skills of each specialty that includes the surgeon, wound care, care coordinator, fabricator, rehabilitation, and prosthetic solution. With this integrated care, patients rebound much faster than the industry average and return to normal activities at a quicker pace.
Gangrene
Peripheral Arterial Pulse Volume Recordings and Segmental Pressures: utilizes obtained arterial waveforms and pressures of the arms and legs to determine if arterial blockage (stenosis) is present. The ankle or wrist pressures are compared to the upper arm pressure in a ratio called the Ankle/Brachial Index (ABI) or Wrist/Brachial Index (WBI) which indicates normal, mild, moderate or severe arterial disease. Severity of arterial disease can manifest in symptoms ranging from leg pain to non-healing ulcers or gangrene.
Vascular Surgery
Mark Chargualaf is a licensed and board-certified physician assistant originally from Knoxville, Tennessee. There, he attended the University of Tennessee and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in May 2020. Mark then earned his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the Medical University of South Carolina in August 2022. During his training, he developed an interest in surgical subspecialties, including vascular surgery. Outside of clinical practice, he enjoys exploring the Lowcountry and cheering on the sports teams of the Tennessee Volunteers.

Lesions
For extensive blood clots, a minimally invasive procedure known as a catheter directed thrombolysis can be performed. Clot busting medications are placed directly into the clot with a catheter that can immediately break down the clot. Angioplasty and stenting may also be used in conjunction with this technique if abnormal lesions are found.
