        Children begin to learn the moment they are born. First, physical needs must be met -- clean, dry clothes, food and shelter from the heat and cold. Along with those needs is that of nurturing, or shall we call it mothering and fathering -- human touch, human voices, smiles and what the great psychologist Erik Erikson called the "establishing of trust," for which there is no substitute. Trusting relationships create an atmosphere for exploration and learning. Most children come to us with this kind of beginning and when you leave a child in our care it is our commitment to build a trusting relationship and carry on in your absence the work you have begun. This, of course, includes the child's education. As caregivers and teachers and all that this implies, we are committed to the use of our skills and the continual upgrading of them to develop in our children the impetus and inspiration to become all they can be. Further, the staff here at CCDS is concerned with the development of the whole child. We subscribe to the following: Since there is no single theory of child development that attempts to explain all aspects of development, the approach taken in our developmental program is eclectic. That is, it includes the predominant theories in all major areas of development and adheres to the philosophy that the best approach for young children and their families is one that provides for successful experiences for the children, their families and our staff.

        My grandson attends CCDS and loves it. The teachers are wonderful educators, the environment is clean, safe, and academically stimulating, and they CARE about children. I wouldn't send him anywhere else. My granddaughter attended there also, and she had the same great experience.

        A great environment for learning

        As we drive up to CCDS it is like we were sending our son off to camp - every day! During the winter months they learn the skills that they will need prior to entering kindergarten. During the summer months they get to explore with a hands on approach on how to take care of themselves and the world around them. We enjoy the many different vegetables that are grown in the Children's Garden. The teachers strive to teach the children to always do your best and you will succeed. Even when they fail they are encouraged to keep trying.

        We know our son has great days at school because he comes home with pockets full of sand. He is covered in sweat from playing all day and talks about the adventures he and his friends went on. He tells us how they learned to bake a cake, how to make paper hats, the correct way to pet an animal, when not to talk to a stranger, how he can slide to the end of the slip-n-slide, and also that he is an expert at riding a 2 wheel bike. The list of what they do for him can go on and on.

        As a family we believe that children learn about the world through positive interaction. When our son is away from us we are confident that Churchland Country Day School is applying that same principal in a loving and encouraging environment.
