Best Buy

I love that Best Buy has the cell phone and data plans in store. Instead of going to Verizon or AT&T you can browse more freely here. They also tend to be cheaper than the actually service providers store.

I went to Best Buy to find a hard to locate accessory and was pleasantly surprised when they had it. But I was a little let down by how expensive it was. If I was patient I could have got it cheaper online.

Best Buy erased all the data files on my hard-drive upon transferring data to a new computer purchased there, then tried to say the old hard-drive went bad and wanted more money to retrieve the data!



Purchase date 10-08-11 - Purchased a new Apple Computer & paid for a data backup & transfer of data from old computer to new with The Geek Squad. They said it would only take 2-3 days. After 6 days I called and asked if they were done with the computer yet?



They said upon transferring the files and the data, the hard-drive crashed and they lost all my data. I went down there where Trevor the Assistant Mgr. said that my hard-drive crashed and they would have to send it out for diagnosis and the hard-drive may have to be rebuilt and could cost an additional $450.00+.



I canceled the order and took my computer to a local repair shop to try and find out what really happened. The Shop said there is nothing wrong with the hard-drive as they were quickly able to find files from six months previous. They told me that from what they are seeing the entire "My Documents" folder was erased, (all photos, 14,000+ music files, Word and Excel documents, etc.) but all other files were there and the hard drive works fine. I personally viewed the files at the shop. They tell me that Best Buy often times will erase the file to another location then tell you that a costly repair is needed then simply transfer the files back onto the computer!



I want these people exposed and held accountable. I am a nervous wreck, worried that a decade worth of financial information and personal information was intentionally lost and possibly corrupted. This is the first step I am taking and considering calling a local news station. In the meantime, the other local shop is attempting to retrieve the erased files at a big cost to me. The Geek Squad was either negligent, inept, or dishonest. They lied when they said the hard drive was dead (crashed) and there was absolutely no data on it. They also lied when they said they called and e-mailed me because I have caller ID and e-mail and they did neither. Nobody wanted to talk to us when we inquired about the status of our data transfer to the new computer.

I've had questions in both the computer and camera depts. Your employees gave me excellent information and assistance.

I recently had a desktop computer take a severe power surge. It fried the motherboard and the power supply unit. I decided to buy a laptop to replace it but wanted all my data from the hard drive on the desktop transferred. The Geek Squad at Best Buy were fantastic, not only did they know exactly what I was saying, I don't speak computer tech very well, they helped me figure out what was the best product for me! Thank you again for your help, patience and for giving me my old hard drive in a new shiney machine!

Very organized store. Supplies with all your electronic needs. Could do a little better job of separating the different catagories.
