Our approach includes listening to our patients describe their symptoms, consulting with their primary care physicians, and using a variety of diagnostic tools and techniques.
Family Practice
As a nurse, Stacy worked in medical-surgical and step down unit settings at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. Prior to joining James River Cardiology, she worked as a nurse practitioner in family practice and long term care settings. Her experiences in medical missions in Peru helped strengthen her interest in providing care and promoting health to medically underserved areas.
Electrocardiogram
An EKG shows how fast the heart is beating and shows its rhythm (steady or irregular) in 12 different places on the body at the same time. It also records the strength and timing of the electrical signals as they pass through each part of the heart.
Immunizations
Recovering the health of our community starts now! Thanks to the tireless commitment of biomedical researchers, the nonstop work of the entire medical community, and volunteers, James River Cardiology began the first FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccinations of its front-line team members this week so that we can safely treat our cardiac patients. We understand that some patients may have questions about the COVID-19 vaccine once it is available to everyone and encourage you to reach out to us at any time to discuss the many reasons to get vaccinated. We will keep you informed on the availability of doses as outlined by federal and state agencies and what it means for you and your family. While the new vaccine offers hope, we all must continue our vigilance, wear facial protection, wash our hands, and practice physical distancing by standing six feet apart as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19.

Dr. Kapadia received his medical degree from the University of Virginia and then completed his residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. He went on to complete a fellowship in cardiology at Brown University at Rhode Island Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Disease. In addition to his direct patient care efforts over decades, Dr. Kapadia co-founded two innovative startups, Iggbo and C3Nexus, dedicated to delivering the right care at the right time and place. He is currently an advisor for Monj, a digital health startup based out of the Bay Area, and serves on the advisory board for GoMo Health, a patient engagement platform. Throughout Dr. Kapadia’s career, he has worked to bring a data-driven, technology-enabled and team-based approach to redefine the way care is delivered.

Ultrasound
A carotid duplex study is an ultrasound of the carotid arteries, which are found in the neck. It is done in the office by a trained sonographer (ultrasound technologist). The ultrasound uses sound waves to see if there is plaque build up in the arteries. Plaque build up can cause narrowing of the carotid arteries which may decrease blood flow to the brain. Decreased blood flow can cause symptoms such as dizziness, unexplained syncope (passing out), change in sight, or stroke.
MRI
A LINQ insertable cardiac monitor is a small heart monitor that is implanted under the skin. Its function is to capture any abnormal heart rhythm, such as atrial fibrillation. It continuously obtains data and automatically sends all relevant heart rhythm data to your physician. The LINQ also comes with a device that is used to manually record heart rhythm when symptoms occur. This device is helpful for patients with unexplained fainting (syncope) or palpitations. It is inserted under the skin by a physician in an outpatient procedure. It is not attached to the heart and is safe in MRI machines.
Nuclear Medicine
Prior to joining our practice, Dr. Singh completed his cardiology and interventional cardiology training at Northwell Health, New York. He is board certified in Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear medicine, and Vascular Ultrasound. Dr. Singh has presented his research and a number of case studies on the stages of various national and international conferences, including American College of Cardiology and European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions meetings.
Computed Tomography
Testing such as ankle brachial index and toe brachial index are good screening tools for peripheral artery disease. Ultrasounds and CT scans are more detailed, less invasive studies that give physicians a better idea of where blockages are located. Peripheral angiogram is done at the hospital and uses dye to see if blockages need to be fixed. They can be fixed with angioplasty, such as balloons, stents, and lasers.
