Dr. Karin Cesario is an expert in her field. I've had 2 Colonoscopy's with her now. Both were done with NO anesthesia. Yes that is correct, NONE. I recommend Dr Cesario and will continue to use her myself as long as I am able. She is a ROCK STAR at what she does and for allowing me to choose to not use anesthesia. :-)

Symptoms of Crohn’s disease include abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloody stools, weight loss and failure to thrive or failure to meet growth milestones, when it affects children or teens. In severe cases, ongoing inflammation may cause scarring of the intestine and lead to obstruction, or deep inflammation that can penetrate and cause perirectal drainage or abscess formation. As with many autoimmune conditions, Crohn’s may also manifest with many symptoms outside of the gut – these include joint pain and stiffness, vision changes, eye pain, mouth sores and rashes.
Primary Care
Colon cancer is a life-threatening growth or tumor in the large intestine (colon). Most commonly colon cancer begins as a colon polyp, which is a pre-cancerous growth in the lining of the colon that is quite common among people in their 40-50s. It typically takes at least 10 years for a polyp to turn into a tumor or cancer. About 130,000 Americans are diagnosed with colon cancer every year, and sadly about 50,000 will die. Fortunately, colon cancer is 90 percent preventable. By getting routine screening tests, like a colonoscopy, as recommended by your primary care doctor, gastroenterologists can remove precancerous polyps and largely prevent colon cancer from occurring.
Smoking Cessation
Treatment for GERD is tailored to each patient, with the goal of choosing therapy that best matches each individual’s disease pattern and severity. Treatment often involves recommendations for behavior modification, including weight loss and dietary changes, smoking cessation and avoidance of large meals late in the evening near bedtime. Medications also are very effective, and safe, for the long-term treatment and control of GERD symptoms, and to prevent long-term complications. Endoscopic therapy can be very effective for certain complications from long-standing GERD. Finally, for severe cases, surgical therapy remains a very good option with excellent long-term results.
Colonoscopy
A careful history and physical exam are important parts to the diagnosis of Ulcerative Colitis. Often blood tests, and stool tests are used to exclude other conditions which may present similarly, including infections. Colonoscopy plays an important role in the diagnosis of ulcerative colitis. This is helpful in determining the extent of disease, and distinguishing ulcerative colitis from a related condition, called Crohn’s disease.

Colon Cancer
Symptoms of colon cancer typically only occur very late in the disease when cancer treatments are much less likely to be helpful or successful at curing the disease. This is why colon cancer screening is recommended even when no symptoms are present. The most common symptoms of colon cancer are blood in your stool, change in bowel habits, decreasing caliber of stool (more narrow stool) and abdominal pain. Iron deficiency anemia is another common diagnosis associated with colon cancer.
Endoscopy
At either the Endoscopy Center of Colorado Springs, or at Penrose if your insurance requires you to have your procedure there, you will be registered as a patient, will be given a consent form to read and to sign, and will have the opportunity to ask the nurse and doctor questions. An IV catheter will be placed in an arm or hand vein.

FibroScan Testing is a recently FDA-approvedÂ non-invasive diagnostic device used to measure liver scarring or fibrosis caused by a number of liver diseases. Similar to undergoing a conventional liver ultrasound exam, outpatient FibroScan testing is quick, painless, easy, and provides a non-surgical alternative to the traditional liver biopsy to assess liver damage.
Chemotherapy
Colon cancer is often treated by a team of doctors including an oncologist (cancer doctor), surgeon and radiologist. Depending on the severity of the cancer, the treatment may include chemotherapy, surgical removal of the tumor and radiation therapy.
Radiation Therapy

Lesions
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is a diagnostic and very useful therapeutic tool to evaluate abnormalities of the gastrointestinal tract. Rarely, we can even investigate problems beyond the gastrointestinal tract. This involves the passage of a specially designed endoscope that is equipped with an ultrasound probe on its tip, and enables your endoscopist to image the local anatomy of the GI tract and beyond. A few indications of this procedure include evaluation of gastrointestinal cancer (esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, and rectal) for staging purposes, diagnosis of abnormalities of the pancreas, diagnosis of lesions of the wall of the GI tract, and even therapy designed at relieving pain from pancreatic malignancy.
