SCAM ALERT!!
I called ‘Nail Spa’ in Conroe to check prices for ‘A full Set Of Pink and White Acrylic Nails’ I was told that the current price was $35.00 per full set, but they had a discount for $5.00 off for the holidays. I left my name and informed ‘Tony’ we would be by after 2pm.
{notice here I did NOT say ‘Solar’..more on that shortly}
I and my 3 daughters proceeded to go have our nails done for Christmas from this establishment.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by ‘Tony’ who got us all started on our nails. I repeated several times about the price being only $30.00 for these sets, of which Tony affirmed.
Once I got ready to pay, {of which I expected to run about $130.00 + tax for 4 sets} I was stunned to learn that I was being charged for an extra service..which ‘Tony’ insisted I look at on the ‘menu’ This service was listed as ‘Top Coat - $5.00’
He also pointed out the fact that the main services on our nails were ‘Solar Nail Sets’ Here is where I discovered the ‘scam’ he was trying to pull. {I am a nail tech myself, but was being lazy that day and had decided I wanted someone else to do my and my girls nails}
Being a nail tech, I know what many salons try to pull on unsuspecting consumers..they will try to charge extra for the name ‘Solar’..like it is something better than ‘acrylic nails’ This is bogus. The only difference between a regular acrylic nail, and a ‘solar’ nail, is the clear ‘topcoat sealant’ brushed on at the end of the service and placed under a ‘UV Lamp’ to ‘cure’. This sealant protects the actual acrylic underneath from cleaning chemicals such as Acetone, which will destroy the acrylic. This topcoat sealant needs to be filed off before your acrylic nails can be removed by soaking in Acetone. Do NOT be fooled by this scam and be informed before you go.
Tony informed me that he had already taken the $5.00 per set off for the ‘discount’ but then added the ‘$5.00 topcoat x 4’..bringing the total right back up to $152.00! {$12.00 in tax}
Be Aware!
