Eye Exam
In this consultation, your surgeon or a nurse will test your vision and assess your tear production. You should also provide any relevant information from your ophthalmologist or the record of your most recent eye exam. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, be sure to bring them along.

If the cancer is large, however, or if it has spread to the lymph glands or elsewhere in the body, major surgery may be required. Other possible treatments for skin cancer include cryosurgery (freezing the cancer cells), radiation therapy (using x-rays), topical chemotherapy (anti-cancer drugs applied to the skin), and Mohs surgery, a special procedure in which the cancer is shaved off one layer at a time. (Mohs surgery is performed only by specially trained physicians and often requires a reconstructive procedure as follow-up.)

Plastic surgeons have thorough grounding in general surgery followed by years of further study at an approved plastic surgery training center. After training, these physicians must successfully complete written and oral examinations administered by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Ear Surgery
For the most part, the operation is done on children between the ages of four and 14. Ears are almost fully grown by age four, and the earlier the surgery, the less teasing and ridicule the child will have to endure. Ear surgery on adults is also possible, and there are generally no additional risks associated with ear surgery on an older patient.

Botox
The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name BOTOX® Cosmetic, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet near the eyes. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Results from the injections generally last about three months.

If you’re considering eyelid surgery, this information will give you a basic understanding of the procedure-when it can help, how it’s performed, and what results you can expect. It can’t answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on the individual patient and the surgeon. Please ask your surgeon about anything you don’t understand.
Liposuction
Often patients will come to us desiring liposuction of their abdomens when a better procedure for them is abdominoplasties. Unfortunately, the liposuction procedure can not address the loose, sagging skin often seen after pregnancy. In fact, liposuction can often times make this condition even worse. Furthermore, liposuction can certainly not address stretch marks or the anatomical changes to the abdominal musculature.
Breast Augmentation
Last year, over 235,000 women had breast augmentation surgery and over 40,000 had breast implant removal (ASPS statistics). While breast implants can enhance a woman’s figure, self-confidence, and sensuality, there are occasions when breast implant removal (explantation) is either desired or required.
Breast Reduction
Breast reduction or reduction mammaplasty is a procedure commonly sought by women because of the functional problems associated with large breasts. Common problems that may be the result of large breasts are back, neck, and shoulder pain. Another common complaint is painful grooving of the skin on the shoulders caused by bra straps. Some women may also develop rashes or blistering in the area beneath their breasts secondary to the moisture that occurs in this skin fold.
Breast Lift
Breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure that can help correct this situation. This procedure involves moving the nipple areolar complex to a higher position on the chest wall and moving the skin and breast tissue around it to restore a more youthful look. This procedure does result in some scarring on the breast. The amount of scarring is dependent on how much of a lift of the breast a woman would require. A lift almost always requires an incision around the areola or colored portion of the nipple and can sometimes involve an additional incision extending from the bottom of the areola to the fold beneath the breasts. In women who have even more excess skin, an additional incision in the fold beneath the breast may be needed. These scars usually heal nicely on the breast and are not exposed unless the patient is not wearing any clothing.
Breast Reconstruction
Most breast reconstruction involves a series of procedures that occur over time. Usually, the initial reconstructive operation is the most complex. Follow-up surgery may be required to replace a tissue expander with an implant, to reconstruct the nipple and the areola, or to further shape the reconstructed breast. Many surgeons recommend an additional operation to enlarge, reduce, or lift the natural breast to match the reconstructed breast. But keep in mind, this procedure may leave scars on an otherwise normal breast. These procedures are usually performed 4-6 months after the original procedure.

Face Lift
It is unlikely that you’ll have to spend time in the hospital for your skin treatment unless the treatment is performed in conjunction with a facelift or some other more complex procedure. Your initial application of Retin-A® or glycolic acid will probably be performed in a doctor’s office or an outpatient facility.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won’t necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.
Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty involves an incision made low on the abdomen that can generally be hidden underneath a patient’s underwear or bathing suit. The abdominal tissue is dissected off the underlying musculature and the musculature is tightened with sutures to its normal anatomical state. The excess skin and fat is then excised from the lower portion of the abdomen as it is pulled down in a window shade type fashion. In doing this, a majority of striae or stretch marks can also be removed. Unfortunately the only treatment for stretch marks at this time is excision as is performed in an abdominoplasty procedure.
Nose Surgery
Aesthetic surgery is generally elective, and therefore not covered by insurance. There are a few instances when a procedure may be covered, such as reduction in breast size, nose surgery following a previous traumatic event, or eyelid surgery when excess skin causes visual problems. Reconstructive procedures are covered under most plans.

Ear surgery, or otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears.
Scar Revision
In such cases, no matter who performs the initial treatment, the plastic surgeon can be an important part of the treatment team. Reconstructive techniques- ranging from a simple scar revision to a complex transfer of tissue flaps from elsewhere on the body-can often repair damaged tissue, rebuild body parts, and restore most patients to acceptable appearance and function.

Dermabrasion
“Surface-repair” treatments can enhance your appearance and give your skin a smoother, fresher look, but they won’t remove deep scars and flaws or prevent aging. These treatments should not be thought of as mini-facelifts. Generally speaking, Retin-A® and glycolic acid treatments offer less dramatic results than surgical approaches like dermaplaning, dermabrasion, or chemical peel.
