In 2004, she graduated from Miami University and became a registered nurse. She had the privilege of working in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Kettering Medical Center for 17 years, specializing in neurocritical care. She developed a love for patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions. Her passion is stroke care and general neurology. She believes the brain is the most fascinating organ in the human body!
Primary Care
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to care for you or your family. We are the regions top provider in patient services caring for spinal, brain and neurological disorders. DCND is accepting new patients on a referral basis only. Please contact your primary care physician or another specialist to request a referral to our office. They can do that through their Electronic Health Record System or they can fax us at 937-439-5462. Our physicians see patients by appointment only at several locations.
Sleep Disorders
Guidelines recommend adults get 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. Sleep disorders impact millions of people across the country. DCND has highly-qualified neurologists who specialize in sleep medicine. They diagnose and treat a variety of issues including Insomnia, Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), and Sleep Apnea. Our neurologists work closely with Kettering Health Network’s sleep centers.

She decided to study neurology because of the wide spectrum of disorders it encompasses. She says it offers something new every day!
Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple Sclerosis impacts the central nervous system disrupting the communication and flow between the brain and the body. The cause is unknown but several studies are underway to better understand what happens. The disease can leave some patients with severe symptoms including vision loss, fatigue, impaired coordination and pain while others can live mostly symptom free their entire life.
Epilepsy
Joe Gebele PA-C, joined DCND as a Physician Assistant in 2013. He earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Kettering College of Medical Arts in 2011. He has more than 8 years of experience in neurological medicine including epilepsy care. He decided to pursue medicine as a way of giving a helping hand to his community.

Mental Health
Managing symptoms of MS is an important part of our treatment plan at DCND. We help educate patients on different lifestyle modifications and connect them to proper therapists who can help with things like physical therapy, occupational therapy, vocational therapy, mental health and nutrition. We also utilize rehabilitation programs to address spasticity and restore and maintain functions. DCND produces a monthly podcast on MS.
Psychiatry

MRI
There is currently not just one test that can determine if you have MS. Our providers look at a variety of criteria to make a final diagnosis. They will often use tests such as physical exams, MRI, lumbar punctures, Evoked Potentials and blood tests.
Computed Tomography
Agnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) are most commonly used. These tests are mainly used to rule out other issues that could be causing symptoms similar to Alzheimer’s. In some circumstances, a doctor may use brain imaging tools to find out if the individual has high levels of beta-amyloid, a hallmark of Alzheimer’s.

Amy is a Nurse Practitioner with DCND. She has a background in neurological and palliative care, neurosurgery and critical care.

Lesions
More than a dozen therapies are now available for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis. These therapies have been shown to dramatically reduce the number of flare ups and new lesions in patients with this condition as well as significantly slowing the progression of disability. Some of these therapies are IV and can be administered on-site at DCND in the infusion center.

Plantar Fasciitis
Dr. Maenpa has been a physiatrist with DCND since 2006. He has helped people with neurological conditions live better lives from the start of his career through rehabilitation & physical medicine. He has a special interest in electrodiagnostic studies (EMG) because it can give patients real-time information about what is going on. Dr. Maenpa has presented several papers locally and nationally involving traumatic brain injuries, brachial plexus injuries, plantar fasciitis and myopathies. He is also a big advocate for the amputee community and works closely with leaders in the industry. Dr. Maenpa is married with one son. In his free time, he enjoys coaching, woodworking and gardening.
