Electrocardiogram
Evaluation begins with your Essex Cardiology Group physician reviewing the patient’s prior cardiovascular history, including previous incidences of congestive heart failure, arrhythmia and angina. Other health factors, such as high blood pressure, a history of tobacco use and the presence of diabetes also play a vital role in the evaluation. In some cases, we will order an electrocardiogram to detect underlying heart disease or a history of myocardial infarction. Functional capacity tests may also be a part of the evaluation, as a measure of physical ability. These tests are indicative of a patient’s risk of developing future cardiovascular complications.

Internal Medicine
Dr. Lawrence Fabrizio is a native of New Jersey. He was raised in Maplewood and has been a resident of the state ever since. He attended Seton Hall Preparatory High School and Seton Hall University. He obtained his medical degree at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, where he graduated with honors in 1988. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at St. Barnabas Medical Center in 1992. He then went on to complete his Fellowship specializing in Cardiovascular Disease from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, where he served as the Chief Subspecialty Fellow in 1995. Finally, he completed training as an Interventional Cardiologist at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in 1996.

Ultrasound
An echocardiogram is a diagnostic procedure that uses ultrasound waves to produce a sonogram of the heart. Our physicians use the images to measure cardiac output, as well as the size and shape of the heart and how well blood is flowing through the heart’s valves and chambers. A standard echocardiogram is known as a trans-thoracic echocardiogram, or TTE and can be performed right at Essex Cardiology Group. The imaging for this fast, non-invasive test is acquired externally through a probe placed on the chest wall.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
After conducting physical exams, our physicians use non-invasive vascular studies as the starting point for diagnosing diseases and conditions that affect the circulatory system, such as atherosclerosis, aneurysms and deep vein thrombosis. These tests are considered non-invasive because they do not require the use of needles or injection of dyes. Examples include chest x-rays, electrocardiograms and CT scans.
