The Department of Transportation operates under the government of Lee County, Fla., which also operates public works, traffic section, animal services, library and public safety departments. The Department of Transportation is responsible for aviation and public transit options, waterways and railroads. The department plans and implements integrated transportation systems. It maintains an operations division that provides maintenance for fresh water drainage canals, pipes, ditches, mowing, street sweeping, sidewalks, pavement patching and bridge operations.
