Computed Tomography
Using an X-ray or CT scan, a doctor will determine if you need to undergo reconstructive surgery or treatment for a facial fracture. Areas such as the cheekbone, nose, jaw and eye sockets will be examined. If, during this examination, you present a serious fracture or deformity, facial reconstruction may be necessary.
Radiation Therapy
Dr. Morse will take all precautions to prevent additional keloid scarring. Non-essential surgery will be avoided; if surgery is needed to remove the keloid he will take care to minimize skin tension and secondary infection. Preoperative antibiotics will often be applied in the situation of excision, and radiation therapy may be performed as a keloid preventative step.

Dr. Martin A. Morse is owner, President, and Medical Director of Morse Hand and Plastic Surgery (the Great Falls Plastic Surgery Center) located in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. area. He is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, specializing in General Reconstructive Surgery (with a focus on hand and upper extremity surgery) and Cosmetic Surgery of the Head and Neck. Dr. Morse received both his Bachelor of Science degree and M.D. from Duke University and completed his General Surgery residency at The University of Rochester. Following his fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery in Orthopaedics at the University of Pittsburgh, he completed his Plastic Surgery training at The University of Florida.
Arthroscopy
During arthroscopy, Dr. Morse inserts a small camera attached to the end of a narrow fiber optic tube through a small incision at the wrist joint. On a television monitor, the doctor can see the small structures in the wrist, which allows for more accurate diagnosis.

I was inspired to build a career in Medicine by my family pediatrician, and to specialize in Surgery by the late Dr. David Sabiston, Dr. Howard Filston, and Dr. Arthur Ross, III, at the Duke University School of Medicine, by the late Dr. M. Judah Folkman and by Dr. Joseph P. Vacanti at the Harvard Children's Hospital. These individuals taught me the importance of constant questioning and the quest for better answers, and their dedication to patients gave me an understanding of what's required to provide an impeccable standard of care that is required to achieve optimal results. I was also inspired to build a specialty in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by Dr. David Billmire at the University of Cincinnati and my subspecialty career in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, by Drs. James H. Herndon and Dean Sotereanos at the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Orthopedic Surgery.
Neurosurgery
Reconstructive plastic surgery, orthopedic hand, upper extremity surgery, and cosmetic surgery all require an exceptional knowledge of anatomy and physiology, as well as meticulous attention to detail. I wanted to understand the intricacies of anatomy and physiology in order to attain excellent and optimal surgical results with even the most complicated cases. Advances in medicine that allowed highly trained surgeons to reattach digits and limbs and to perform organ transplants with unprecedented success particularly fascinated me. These procedures are life changing and, in some cases, life saving. To perform them well requires an in-depth knowledge of not only plastic and reconstructive surgical techniques, but also the principles of general surgery, orthopedic surgery, pediatric surgery, and neurosurgery. I wanted to be involved in this type of complex medical practice, and knew it would suit me well. Finally, my significant past experience in reconstructive plastic and orthopedic hand surgery gives me a distinct advantage over my colleagues who have concentrated on cosmetic surgery alone enabling me to achieve excellent cosmetic surgery outcomes as well as often being the "go to" surgeon in the community to perform revisions on other surgeons' patients.
Arthroscopy
Arthroscopy is a technique that allows a hand surgeon to visualize the inside of a joint with minimal invasiveness. The wrist is one of the most common joints to undergo arthroscopy. The technique allows the doctor to treat disorders and problems through very small incisions.
Otolaryngology
I believe there should be truth in advertising, i.e., if an individual feels comfortable and is trained to do a procedure or if trained, a surgery, he or she should be able to do so. However, there should be better policing of an individual's credentials and how that person is able to advertise his qualifications to the public. For example, it is okay for an ENT or an oral surgeon to do a facelift because he or she is trained (and may have more experience) than a Board Certified plastic surgeon, but they should be required to advertise that they are Board Certified in otolaryngology (ENT) or oral surgery not in plastic surgery because they are trained in their specialties and are, in fact, not Board Certified as plastic surgeons. Similarly, although a dermatologist can do body liposuction, they should not be allowed to have an advertisement claiming to be a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and doing body liposuction when in fact they should have to say they are Board Certified in Dermatology.
Mohs Surgery
Melanoma surgery may involve either surgical excision or Moh's surgery in the attempt to remove skin cancer tumors. These cancerous tumors, or melanomas, develop as a result of the malignant transformation of melanocytes, melanin-producing cells located at the bottom layer of the epidermis. Surgical treatment aims at removing stage I or II melanoma, and presents as the best method to remove early melanomas.

Botox
Botox Cosmetic is a popular treatment for treating visible lines and wrinkles on the forehead. Used in more than 70 countries worldwide, Botox is likely the most popular treatment offered by cosmetic plastic surgeons. Aside from its cosmetic applications, Botox is widely used for therapeutic treatments, including management of hyperhidrosis and muscle spasms.
Brow Lift
A brow lift can reduce wrinkles and lines around on the forehead, and restore the youthful arch of the eyebrows. The procedure may also be effective for correcting loose, drooping skin on the eyelids. Your brow lift can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. There are many different techniques that can be used, including the minimally invasive endoscopic brow lift. Typical recovery time is 7-10 days.
Eyelid Surgery
In some cases, the doctor may recommend that you see your eye doctor for a medical evaluation before proceeding with eyelid surgery. Notify Dr. Morse if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease or medical problems of the eye.
Liposuction
Autologous fat grafting is a technique that can augment soft tissue to reduce the appearance of scars or age-related imperfections. Also known as micro lipoinjection, this procedure requires liposuction and then an injection of your own body fat.
Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men. It may affect only one breast or both. Though certain drugs and medical problems have been linked with male breast overdevelopment, there is no known cause in the vast majority of cases. One of the most common treatments fpr Gynecomastia is male breast reduction surgery.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure of the nose, designed to reshape the nose to exhibit a more balanced and proportional shape. A wide variety of techniques are involved, which can alter the nasal shape in different ways depending on the patient's anatomy.
Breast Reconstruction
Tissue expansion is a surgical technique that assists in the production of extra soft tissue for use in surgical reconstruction procedures like breast reconstruction; it is also used to repair skin damaged by birth defects like cleft lips, accidents, and some cosmetic procedures like hair replacement surgery.
Plastic Surgery
The first line of defense is a regular medical cleanse treatment designed to prevent regular breakouts. At the Great Falls Plastic Surgery Center, we carry the popular Obagi Clenziderm line, which is available in "normal to oily: and "normal to dry" skin type formulations.
Face Lift
Facelift surgery can address a wide variety of age-related imperfections in the middle and lower areas of one's face. Sagging jowls, deep folds and excess neck skin are all commonly addressed during this surgery. Operating time is approximately 2 to 3 hours and surgery is often done under local anesthesia. Dr. Morse carefully separates the skin from the underlying fat and muscle, then trims and tightens the facial tissues.
Neck Lift
Most patients plan for about 2 to 3 weeks of rest and recovery time. After the surgery, you will be sent home wrapped in a loose bandage that is designed to minimize post-operative swelling. Some numbness, bruising and puffiness should be expected during this time. Dr. Morse will probably instruct you to keep your head elevated to minimize these effects. The incision scars, which are hidden within the contour of your skin, should fade and flatten out over time. During the initial recovery period, you may want to wear scarves or high-necked clothing.

Otoplasty
One of the most common ear deformities corrected by surgeons is a condition of protruding ears, when the ears appear prominent or project too far from one's head. A procedure called otoplasty is done to reshape the cartilage behind the ear and pin the ears back to a normal position.
Scar Revision
Scar revision therapies replace one scar for another in an attempt to improve the aesthetic appearance of the original scar. Though the scar's appearance may improve considerably, it is important that the patient understand that complete restoration to preinjury tissue appearance is impossible. Dr. Morse recognizes that this high emotional component must be addressed so that realistic expectations can be achieved.
Lip Augmentation
Hyaluronic acid fillers have become extremely popular options for the temporary correction of wrinkles and folds. They're also useful for lip augmentation. As a natural component of your connective tissue, hyaluronic acid binds with water beneath the skin to increase tissue volume. The results typically last about 6 to 12 months.

Facial Implants
Fullness in the middle of the face and cheeks is a common characteristic of youth. In some people, the cheeks can appear sunken or flat due to the effects of aging or inadequate underlying bone structure. Cheek augmentation is any procedure designed to correct this problem by augmenting the tissue of the cheeks. This can be accomplished using facial implants or injectable products.
Chin Augmentation
Chin augmentation involves the surgical placement of a synthetic facial implant beneath the tissue of one's chin. The implant can reshape and increase the projection of the chin to improve the balance of your facial features.
Forehead Lift
A brow lift can be performed under local or general anesthesia, in a hospital or outpatient clinic. The operation can take 2 to 3 hours. During a traditional forehead lift, an incision is made from ear to ear and the forehead tissues are gently elevated. After closing the incision, the incision site is cleansed and bandaged. A popular alternative is the endoscopic brow lift, which uses smaller incisions and the aid of an endoscope.

Basal cell carcinoma usually grows slowly in the basal cells that line the deepest layer of the epidermis, and rarely metastasizes. The hands are particularly prone to burns and other related injuries. If they come in contact with extreme heat, chemicals or frostbite, significant damage can result and death of cells in the skin.
Lesions
Vascular lesions, port-wine stains and birthmarks are often treated by plastic surgeons. Treatment may vary according to the lesion color, but can typically be done in children as young as 6-months old. Dark red port-wine birthmarks are typically treated with a series of laser treatments.

Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow, also know as lateral epicondylitis, is a bothersome condition caused by overuse or trauma. Most sufferers experience pain when lifting, gripping, or grasping. Lateral epicondylitis involves the tendons that attach to the bone on the outside part of the elbow. Tendons anchor the muscle to bone, while the muscles help to extend and stabilize the wrist. Tennis elbow can result when the tendon's attachment degenerates, which weakens the anchor site and places more stress on the area.
