Pediatric dentists will guide children and teens through their dental growth and development utilizing their training from infant oral health exams to space management after the premature loss of a primary tooth. They also offer other oral health related care like special counseling on nutrition, advice on teeth grinding, and discouragement of thumb and finger sucking.

Root Canal Treatment
Long term follow-up and future intervention may be required, such as root canal therapy, restorations, and management of occlusion or discoloration.
Apicoectomy
While most root canals are successful, sometimes there are complications. If an infection from the dead nerve inside a tooth spreads beyond the tooth root into the surrounding bone, you may require an apicoectomy. An apicoectomy removes an infected portion of tooth root, often the tip, to clean the infection from the tooth and surrounding bone, then fills the root, preventing further infections.

Deep Cleaning
Of all dental specialties, periodontists are dentists specializing in the care and prevention of gum-related diseases and the treatment of oral inflammation. Periodontists often treat more problematic cases or severe gum disease with a wide range of treatment including scaling and root planing – which is commonly thought of as a “Deep Cleaning” and involves thoroughly scaling all plaque, toxins and tartar deposits and then smoothing all of the rough areas on the root surface. Another common treatment would be root surface debridement, where damaged gum tissue is removed.

Dental Implants
Bone grafts can repair implant sites with inadequate bone structure due to previous extractions, gum disease, or injuries. The bone is either obtained from a tissue bank or your own bone is taken from the jaw, hip, or tibia (below the knee). In addition, special membranes may be utilized that dissolve under the gum and protect the bone graft and encourage bone regeneration. This is called guided bone regeneration or guided tissue regeneration.

Jaw Surgery

Pre-prosthetic Surgery
Some patients may require pre-prosthetic surgery (a minor oral surgery procedure) to prepare the hard and soft tissues of the jaws for a comfortable prosthesis (denture) that will restore oral function, aesthetics and facial appearance. A denture sits on the bone ridge, so it is very important that the bone is the proper shape and size. If a tooth needs to be extracted, the underlying bone might be left sharp and uneven. For the best fit of a denture, the bone might need to be smoothed out or reshaped. Occasionally, excess bone would need to be removed prior to denture insertion.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Ellis attended Florida State University for his undergraduate education from 1981-1985 and attended University of Illinois, Chicago College of Dentistry from 1986-1990. He completed his general practice residency at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, IL in 1991 and medical school at Georgetown University School in Medicine in 1997. He also did his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD from 1994-2000. Dr. Ellis was an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon for the United States Navy for 10 years and spent five years living in Japan while he was forward-deployed on the USS Kitty Hawk. In 2010, he went into private practice in Mebane, North Carolina and in 2014, Dr. Ellis and his wife relocated to Green Bay.
Tooth Extractions
Many thanks to Dr. Parmar. I can’t imagine anyone looking forward to nor enjoying a tooth extraction, but Dr. Parmar fully explained the numerous scenarios that were possible which I really appreciated. This doesn’t happen to me often under any circumstances. Fortunately, the first and least painful option was the one taken. Thanks again to an excellent dental surgeon.
Bone Grafting

Dr. Graf graduated from Marquette University School of Dentistry. He went on to serve three years in the US Navy where he completed a General Dentistry Residency program at Camp Pendleton, CA. He was also deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit for Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2016 he was honored with the opportunity to serve as a guardian on the Northeast Wisconsin Old Glory flight to Washington, D.C.
