General Practitioners

Primary Care
After your visit your therapist will send a formal evaluation report to your referring provider as well as your primary care doctor if you have one. As you make progress, your therapist will continue to keep your doctors abreast of the improvements you have made.

Neurology
BE Fit works collectively with all types of providers – Primary Care, Orthopedics/Sports Medecine, Neurology, etc. We work closely with physicians in the Upper Valley and surrounding areas – DHMC, APD, UV Neurology/Neurosurgery, Concord Orthopedics, Rutland/Sharon Gifford sites, Valley Regional and Mount Ascutney Hospitals, and other private practitioners. We will help coordinate all referral needs, help obtain medical records and test results (MRI, Xrays) and confirm all necessary restrictions or protocols related to your care. We are very familiar with these offices and their expectations for patient care. Our ability to communicate effectively with your health providers is important in making sure you get the best possible care and outcome from the onset of therapy throughout your full recovery.

Ultrasound
BE Fit is designed to provide a variety of equipment options to be used for your rehab needs. While our equipment mimics what is available in most gym settings, we also tailor our programs for those who workout primarily at home, outdoors, or in alternative settings. Examples of our equipment include treadmill, bikes, UBE (upper body ergometers – a bike for your arms), total gym (for strength training of the arms and legs including plyometrics), foam rollers, theraballs, kettle bells, therabands/tubing, free weights, and more. We also have equipment for providing ultrasound, iontophoresis delivery of medicine, and electrical stimulation on site. Some bracing needs are carried in-stock as well as a full line of semi-custom orthotics. BE Fit does carry some equipment for sale, and we can guide you about where to get other equipment as needed.

Any referrals, operation notes, MRI/X-Ray reports, or additional information that your referring physician would like us to have.
X-Rays
Iontophoresis
A “modality” is any adjunctive treatment approach applied during physical therapy to help achieve your goals. At BE Fit, this could include heat and cold, laser light treatments for blood flow and tissue healing, ultrasound for deep heating and blood flow, TENS (pain relief) and NMES (muscle activation) electrical stimulation, dry needling, or iontophoresis (trans-dermal application of steroid or anti-inflammatory medications using an electrical current). Your therapist will determine which if any of these modalities are appropriate for your particular injury and use them to aid with pain relief or reduction in inflammation in order to allow more complete participation in your rehab program.

That makes us unique because of our focus on sports and orthopedics, helping get people get back to a high level of fitness as well as health. We also are unique in our emphasis placed on hiring only highly experienced physical therapists who share our focus, rather than assistants, aides, or new therapists. As we value spending time with our patients, we provide 1 hour evaluation sessions and 30-45 minute follow up treatment sessions when necessary.

BE Fit specializes in all facets of managing orthopedic and sports injuries – prevention, acute injury management, chronic injury management, rehabilitation from injury or surgery, and performance enhancement. Injuries can be new or years old and need not be sports-related. We treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries to all parts of the body, including shoulder, knee, foot/ankle, hip, and spine injuries. Physical Therapy
BE Fit believes that your understanding of the injury is a key to recovery. Helping patients learn about their bodies, what is contributing to their injury, and how physical therapy can affect it, allows them to better commit to the rehab process. Knowing what to expect and typical time frames for change to occur, will greatly lessen the psychological impact of injury as well. Rehab from an injury should be a cooperative effort, and without patient understanding of the process, that cooperation will break down. All of our therapists are strong communicators and place patient education as a top priority from the first visit and throughout the recovery.

Aquatic Therapy
We do not provide hands-on aquatic therapy, but we can construct a personalized aquatic therapy routine for our patients to perform independently. If patients want to independently perform exercise in the pool at UVAC, they can purchase a day pass through the Upper Valley Aquatic Center or participate in the 60 days for $60 program.
Manual Therapy
One of the hallmarks of physical therapy is hands-on treatment. While some injuries can be managed through education and exercise alone, most will benefit from additional treatment with with manual techniques. Physical therapists are trained and licensed to provide soft tissue mobilization techniques, joint mobilization techniques, and joint manipulation techniques, as well as manual stretching and strengthening. Soft tissue mobilization includes various massage techniques to improve muscle and myofascial tissue mobility, reduce adhesions and scar tissue, and reduce muscle tension and pain. It can include instrument-assisted techniques using metal tools to assist with the mobilization, such as the Graston technique. Joint mobilization targets stretching to the ligaments surrounding a joint to improve their mobility. Joint manipulation is similar, but applies the forces more rapidly than with mobilization, often achieving a cavitation or “crack”. All of these techniques can be used on regions throughout the body as needed, although they may not all be needed to treat every injury. All of the therapists at BE Fit are dedicated to giving their patients what they need to get better – including these valuable hands-on techniques.
