Petland

Please DO NOT SHOP at this PETLAND store for any pets or pet supplies! You will regret it.
On my daughter's birthday, we went to Petland at Hoffman Estates to look at and maybe buy 2 FEMALE guinea pigs (our first pets ever). At the store, we saw a large cage with 2 guinea pigs sitting in it and a sign that they were for adoption. An associate told us the guinea pigs in that cage were healthy females and came with that cage and a care kit as a package. Overall cost was close to $300. Animals and supplies at this store are incredibly overpriced. The cage that the animals were already in is sold on Amazon for only $170 while at Petland it was over $250. Despite the higher cost, we thought it would be a good idea to "adopt" these guinea pigs instead of buying brand new ones.
OH BOY! we were WRONG!!!!!!!!
When we took the animals for a vet visit, we were told that they were actually both MALES and had MITES!!! When I contacted the store and the customer service, they refused to take back the animals and the items they came with as a package. The owner of the store claims that the animals were checked by a vet and were free of mites before we took them home, however, she is unable to provide any proof of that. So, obviously, these guinea pigs already had mites and were still offered to customers. Also, the store employees knew all along that the animals were MALES but failed to verify their genders prior to selling them to us!!! Now, the owner of the store wants us to treat the animals for mites (that they already had during their stay at Petland) before we can return them which is going to cost at least additional $200. So, total for this good deed we were trying to do is getting close to $600!
At this point, they are not even returning my calls or answering the phone, which shows you the level of service you will receive if you purchase anything here.
Please do yourself a huge favor and STAY AWAY from this place. I am pretty sure that the positive reviews are fake.
