Founded in 1984, the University of Maryland Medical System is a private, nonprofit organization that provides health care. The system operates, the University of Maryland Medical Center, which is a 705-plus-bed facility and is located in Baltimore. The University of Maryland Medical System s unit, the Baltimore Washington Medical Center is a 298-plus-bed community hospital that serves intensive care patients. The system also operates, Kernan Hospital, which is a rehabilitation and orthopedic hospital that serves adults and children. The University of Maryland Medical System has partnership with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and various community and specialty hospitals.
