Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is commonly associated with alcohol consumption and tobacco products. However, recent studies have found additional causes of oral cancer, including the human papillomavirus (HPV). During an oral cancer screening, your clinician will use a variety of techniques and technology to check for abnormal cells or lesions in the oral cavity. Any abnormality will indicate the need for more advanced screenings and tests.

Teeth Cleaning
Had biannual teeth cleaning. The dental hygienist always does a good job and is very cheery and pleasant. This was the first time I had to wait before being seen, and usually that is not the case.
Dental Sealants
Thorough brushing and flossing helps remove food and plaque from teeth, but they can’t reach all the way into deep grooves. While fluoride helps prevent decay and helps protect the surfaces of teeth, dental sealants add extra protection for grooved and pitted areas.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Dental veneers and crowns are thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are custom made to fit over teeth. A cosmetic veneer covers only the front of your tooth, whereas a crown covers the entire tooth. They can be used to fix chipped, stained, misaligned, worn down, uneven or abnormally spaced teeth. These cosmetic options may be beneficial for those who want a long-term solution to persistent cosmetic concerns and haven’t responded well to other dental treatments, such as teeth whitening, braces, or retainers. Cosmetic veneers and crowns are among the most popular cosmetic dental treatments today!
Veneers
First, your dentist will remove a small amount of the tooth surface to permit placement of the veneer. Then an impression is taken of the tooth and sent to the dental laboratory. The dental veneer is then made to fit the tooth and mouth. Finally, the veneer is bonded to the tooth with resin cement.
Crowns
If you have a tooth that needs a little extra support, your dentist may recommend a crown as part of your treatment plan. A crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” made of porcelain or ceramic that covers the tooth. Generally, a crown is placed on top of a tooth that is damaged or in need of repair.
Bridges
Crowns and bridges are placed over damaged or missing teeth to improve the appearance, shape or alignment of your smile. Crowns are tooth-shaped “caps” made of porcelain or ceramic that cover the tooth in need of repair. Bridges are used to replace missing teeth by anchoring caps to surrounding teeth.
Restorative Dentistry

Root Canal Treatment
A root canal is a treatment to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth. The procedure involves removing the damaged area of the tooth (the pulp), cleaning and disinfecting it, then filling and sealing it. Common causes affecting the pulp are a cracked tooth, deep cavity, trauma or repeated treatment to the tooth. The term “root canal” comes from cleaning of the canals inside the tooth’s root.

Deep Cleaning
A deep cleaning is generally recommended to treat active infection that can affect the bone and gums that support your teeth. When enough bacteria from plaque and tartar builds up and causes gum disease, a deep cleaning may be recommended. This is a special type of cleaning where plaque and tartar are removed from between your teeth and gums and the roots of your teeth. Deep cleanings are usually needed more often than preventative cleanings to help treat gum disease.

Dentures

Dental Implants
Mini dental implants have the same structure as regular dental implants, but are slightly smaller. A patient who can’t receive conventional implants may benefit from mini dental implants.

Oral Surgery
Dr. Michael Craney is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Prior to dental school, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from Indiana University—Purdue University Indianapolis. Dr. Craney recently relocated from Birmingham, Alabama, where he practiced and provided comprehensive treatment, including restorative, endodontic, oral surgery and prosthodontic services while using the latest technology to make a more comfortable experience for the patient. He loves to focus on his patients by providing education to help them maintain or improve their overall oral health.
Tooth Extractions
A simple extraction is the removal of a tooth that can be seen in the mouth. For a simple extraction, the dentist loosens the tooth with an instrument called an elevator. Then the dentist uses forceps to remove the tooth.

Yes, there are different types of materials (donor and synthetic) and a wide variety of techniques that we use to best suit your specific needs. Most dental insurances will cover bone grafting. Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr. Alex is committed to keeping abreast of technological advancements, as she is dedicated to providing her patients the best possible treatment options. She has taken expanded courses in endodontics, implants, and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Alex’s approach is to treat her patients gently and make them feel comfortable while in her care. If they choose to do so, patients have an option of oral sedation and nitrous oxide to lessen any anxiety.
General Dentistry
Dr. Erica graduated from the University of Louisville and went on to specialize in public health at an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency. She is currently awaiting her induction into the Fellowship of the Academy of General Dentistry this upcoming July and has completed over 500 hours of continuing education in her pursuit of fellowship. She holds professional memberships with the Academy of General Dentistry and Spear Education as well as volunteers for the Donated Dental Service program.
