Dee, our head nurse, is a registered nurse with more than 19 years experience in gynecology, obstetrics, newborn care, delivery and recovery. One of her main responsibilities is to handle all phone calls to assure your healthcare questions and concerns are met. Dee works closely with Dr. Mace-Motta to facilitate rapid response to your urgent needs. Dee has worked with Dr. Mace-Motta since 2002.

Dr. Mace-Motta is a resident of Coppell and has lived in the Metroplex area for over 10 years. Because of her love of obstetrics and the unique healthcare concerns for women of all ages, Dr. Mace-Motta earned her medical degree in Osteopathy from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine before completing her medical training at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio with rotations at Ohio State University and Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Mace-Motta received her board certification in 1998 and is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She currently resides in Coppell with her husband Dr. Michael Motta, and their two beautiful daughters.

A Pap smear is a test done during a pelvic exam to check for unusual changes in the cells of the cervix. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. Abnormal cells can develop into cancer if not detected and treated. There are no signs or symptoms related to early cervical cancer so a yearly pelvic exam of the female sex organs and a Pap smear are essential. Cervical cancer is preventable and curable if detected early. Pap smears have reduced deaths from cervical cancer in the United States by 70% over the past 50 years.

Routine well woman exams consist of a breast exam, pelvic exam, Pap smear with HPV screening, rectal exam after age 40, bone density screening after age 50 and mammography after age 35. Complaints and other issues are not addressed at a well woman exam. A well woman exam usually takes 30 minutes.

Surgical Procedures – Dr. Mace-Motta utilizes advanced, less invasive laparoscopic, hysteroscopic and conventional surgical techniques to meet the varying needs of her individual patients. Among the procedures performed are hysteroscopy, laparoscopic hysterectomy, traditional hysterectomy, endometrial ablation, tubal ligation, Essure, operative laparoscopy and reconstructive vaginal surgery. We also offer office hysteroscopy and colposcopy.

Lesions
It’s difficult to determine you have a serious health problem from just one abnormal Pap result. Depending on the pathology of your Pap smear, Dr. Mace-Motta will generally ask that you come back in three to six months for a repeat Pap smear. She may also schedule you for a colposcopy, an in-office procedure that allows Dr. Mace-Motta to visually see abnormal lesions or suspicious tissue upon examination. A biopsy is usually done at this time. In many cases your follow-up Pap smear will be normal. Often the causes of an abnormal result are easily treatable. Dr. Mace-Motta will discuss your individual results and may recommend additional tests or treatment.
