Southwest Middle School serves students in grades six through eight. It offers educational programs in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. The school additionally offers elective courses in art, music, business and computer technology, biotechnology, Spanish, keyboarding and physical education. Southwest Middle School has an athletics department that offers a variety of sports activities, such as football, cheerleading, basketball, softball, wrestling, soccer, baseball, volleyball, and track and field. It supports several organizations that include the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) and student council, as well as band and choir clubs. The school s extracurricular activities include Odyssey of the Mind and Battle of the Books. Southwest Middle School s library has a collection over 12,000 titles and organizes Scholastic book fairs. It is located in Jacksonville, N.C., and is a part of the Onslow County School System.
