General Info: Training is Communication! Our dogs are like visitors in a foreign land, trying to guess meaning and directions from body-language. To further complicate matters, dogs have their own culture and with the best of intentions, we often give them the wrong signals. As Bruce Fogle, PhD, notes, "A dog does not expect to be treated like a human. A dog expects a human to act like a dog." Dogs interpret everything we say and do according to their own culture and "etiquette." A lot of “behavior problems” come from those very misunderstandings. Your dog may not see any problem and be confused as to why you're upset. I use the dog's own body-language and culture to communicate with your dog and both gently and positively teach him/her how to behave in the human world s/he shares with you. A good start on those manners is making sure your dog listens to you and can follow some basic commands: sit, down, come, etc. I use markers, positive reinforcement, and the No-Free-Lunch method so your dog discovers that obeying is the key to getting what s/he wanted all along. Drama Dog Training LLC offers both Group classes and Private lessons at your place or mine. I teach you to teach your dog. After every class or private lesson you get homework notes to help you work with your dog between sessions. GROUP CLASSES meet for an hour, 1 day/week -- PUPPY MANNERS (8 wks through 5 mo) $85 for 6-week session Covers: house-training hints, socialization, positive play, focus, recall, sit, wait/OK exercise, impulse-control, leadership exercises BASIC OBEDIENCE (6 months and older) $85 for 6-week session Covers: focus, sit, stand, down, sit/stay, down/stay, recall, loose leash walking, targeting, wait/OK exercise, reacting to other dogs, excessive barking, jumping, Home Leadership Basics INTERMEDIATE OBEDIENCE (6 mo, up, prereq: Basic Obedience) $85 for 6-week session Covers: review of Basic Commands plus preparation for Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog tests. New material includes – Sit-Stay in Heel position, meet and greet behavior, basic commands from distance and with obstacles, leash work with automatic Sit, accepting handling from strangers, and more. BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS like anxiety, aggression, house-training, barking, etc. are often best handled in one-on-one lessons. After each lesson, I'll send you personalized homework notes to help you practice with your pup between sessions.
