Medical Weight Loss
While polycystic ovarian syndrome cannot be cured, its effects can be minimized with long-term treatment. To overcome female infertility due to PCOS, clomiphene citrate is usually prescribed to restore normal ovulation. When obesity is a factor, dietary changes and weight loss will frequently cause normal menstruation and ovulation to resume spontaneously.

Male Infertility
Male infertility is a subject that many men still find uncomfortable; however, fertility problems in men are not rare. About two thirds of couples undergoing fertility treatment are trying to overcome some type of male infertility. Male infertility can range from a decrease in sperm production to a physical blockage that prevents sperm from reaching its destination. Fortunately, we are able to treat most forms of male infertility at our Fort Lauderdale-area practice in Southeast Florida.
Immunizations
A blood test that determines if the patient is immune to rubella (German measles), a viral disease that can cause severe birth defects. If a woman is not immune to rubella, she may be advised to have a rubella vaccination, wait one month before attempting pregnancy, and then re-test for immunity.

Gynecology
If one or both partners have undergone infertility treatment in the past, there is a high likelihood that the same problem will once again interfere with conception. Depending on the cause of infertility, it may be necessary to seek treatment immediately or after three to six months of trying to conceive naturally. Consult your physician or contact our Florida fertility specialists to get a recommendation based on your individual condition. If you are a woman who has experienced two or more miscarriages or who has a family history of recurrent pregnancy loss, it is recommended that you consult your OB-GYN before attempting to become pregnant. Infertility treatment may or may not be necessary, depending on your condition, but you will certainly need close monitoring during your pregnancy.
Female Infertility
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), another leading cause of female infertility, is an endocrine condition that interferes with ovulation. Due to the excess production of androgens (male hormones), women with PCOS often do not ovulate normally. Rather than a single ovarian follicle developing and releasing a mature egg each cycle, multiple ovarian cysts form but do not release any eggs. Common symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome include irregular menstruation and signs of hyperandrogenism, such as excess body hair, acne, and thinning hair on the head. Obesity and insulin resistance are also closely associated with PCOS.
Obstetrics
Dr. Christie received his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida in Gainesville. While there, he received the Berlex Laboratories' Teaching Resident Award and the Golden Apple Teaching Award.
Endometriosis
Was initially developed as a way to allow women with blocked fallopian tubes to become pregnant. Since its introduction, however, IVF has also been beneficial for couples suffering from male factor infertility, endometriosis, premature ovarian failure, and unexplained infertility. It is also an option for patients who have had a surgical sterilization procedure and would now like to have another child.

During pregnancy, the intended parents will provide emotional and financial support for the gestational carrier as outlined in the contract. The amount of communication and interaction between the parties varies by case and should be one of the issues agreed upon before the procedure is begun.
Labor and Delivery
Additionally, special techniques performed in combination with in vitro fertilization can overcome even more fertility obstacles. A woman who has a healthy uterus but no viable eggs can experience the unique journey of pregnancy and childbirth through the process of IVF with egg donation. Likewise, a woman who cannot carry a pregnancy to term despite having an adequate egg supply can hold on to her dreams of being a biological parent with the help of a gestational carrier. IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) can help to overcome all but the most severe forms of male factor infertility and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) offers couples who carry a genetic disease a way to ensure that their child will be healthy.

Daniel R. Christie, M.D., is subspecialty certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, joined IVF FLORIDA Reproductive Associates in March 2010 to treat patients in our Miami and Pembroke Pines offices. He completed his subspecialty fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in June 2008.

Ultrasound
When you schedule a Fertility Awareness Check at IVF FLORIDA, we will perform a blood test to measure three hormones (E2, FSH, and AMH) and a transvaginal ultrasound, which provides valuable information about your basic fertility status. You will receive results and recommendations during a complimentary 15-minute consultation with a dedicated nurse practitioner.
Radiology
IVF FLORIDA Reproductive Associates has improved service delivery and convenience by adding radiology services to the list of services delivered on site. We perform hysterosalpingograms (HSG) in our Margate, Coral Gables and Jupiter offices, as well as at Northwest Medical Center and Memorial West Hospital. The addition of the HSG suite in our Margate Fertility Center means one stop location for all of a patient's fertility treatment needs - with the surgical suite and state-of-the-art laboratory all located at the Margate location. The HSG process is very simple and efficient - check in, have a pregnancy test, and have the HSG procedure all in one convenient location, without having to travel to a hospital. Our HSG service is faster, much less expensive, more convenient and potentially less traumatic than a hospital based study. Generally, our physicians can perform the procedure in 15 minutes or less, dramatically reducing the overall time of the procedure.

While at Stanford, she obtained a master’s degree in Health Services Research. She then served in the Air Force and gained experience as the Director of the Infertility Program at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. She was on faculty for the Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility and Minimally Invasive Surgery fellowships at the National Institute of Health and Uniformed Services University for Health Services.
Vasectomy
Refers to all attempts at ovulation induction that are intended to lead to an IVF cycle. Cancellation of the cycle before the egg retrieval is attempted may occur if the stimulation is suboptimal. Some programs may not allow older women or men with a severe sperm abnormality to attempt an IVF cycle because these patients are more likely to have cycles canceled due to failure of ovulation induction and fertilization, respectively. Because our infertility treatment centers have a very high IVF pregnancy rate with ICSI, we accept men with severe sperm abnormalities, and we have been very successful even when sperm counts are under 100,000 with poor motility, as well as in cases of a failed vasectomy reversal.

Because the endometrial tissue outside of the uterus responds to hormonal changes the same way the lining inside the uterus does, by building up and breaking down with each menstrual cycle, tissue from the endometrial lesions is shed into the pelvic cavity and has no way to exit the body. This causes inflammation, scarring, and cysts that may result in pain and female infertility.
