Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Many people suffering from wrist and hand pain struggle with carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the nerve which runs from the forearm into the hand becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. This nerve, called the median nerve, controls sensations to the palm side of the thumb and fingers, as well as impulses to some small muscles in the hand that allow the fingers and thumb to move.

Born and raised on a dairy farm in Eatonville, Washington. After graduating from University of Washington medical school, my internship was spent at UW in General Surgery. I then completed 5 years of orthopedic residency in San Francisco. One year was spent doing research in total joint replacements and spine surgery. In 1994, I joined the Windward orthopedic group in Kailua and Kaneohe. My specialty is hip and knee reconstruction. In addition, I volunteer at the Shriners Hospital for Children where I do hip and knee replacements on teenagers.

Her work prior to becoming an Orthopaedic Surgeon focused on coaching sports-specific athletes to improve performance. After her training, she began practicing in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine Division, at the University of New Mexico. She is an accomplished team physician, caring for many collegiate and professional level teams, most recently, the University of New Mexico Lobos varsity athletic teams.
