Thyroid
Complications are usually rare and minor when blepharoplasty is performed by a competent plastic surgeon. Patients with some medical conditions such as thyroid disease, hypertension and patients with dry eyes have an increased risk following blepharoplasty.

Ultrasound
As mentioned above, silicone and saline implants are considered safe but there is still a very small chance that they may rupture. Saline implants typically deflate if there is a tear or a hole, which usually makes it easier for patients to detect if a rupture has occurred. Patients with silicone implants may find it harder to determine if a rupture occurred since the gel tends to seep out slowly. This is why Dr. Schantz and Dr. Turner follow FDA recommendations regarding silicone implants. Patients should have their first ultrasound or MRI performed 5-6 years after implantation and then every 2-3 years subsequently to make sure that their implants are still intact. Ultimately, any breast augmentation patient should do regular self-breast assessments and routine professional screenings to identify any irregularities.

General Surgery
Dr. Schantz did his residency in general surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was accepted into one of the only few integrated plastic surgery residencies established in the country.
Ear Surgery
The ear surgery begins with an incision just behind the ear, in the natural fold where the ear is joined to the head. Dr. Waldman will remove the necessary amounts of cartilage and skin required to achieve the right effect. In some cases, Dr. Waldman will trim the cartilage, shape it into a more desirable form, and then pull the cartilage back with permanent sutures to secure the cartilage. In other instances, Dr. Waldman will not remove any cartilage at all, using stitches to hold the cartilage permanently in place. After sculpting the cartilage to the desired shape, Dr. Waldman will apply sutures to anchor the ear until healing occurs to hold the ear in the desired position.

Brow Lift
The surgery begins with the placement of the incision. In many cases the incision is made slightly behind the hairline, running from ear to ear across the top of the head. However, if the patient is balding or has a receding hairline, the incision will be made in the mid-forehead area of the hairline, along a natural line to minimize incision visibility. Excess skin and tissue will also be removed before the fine sutures or metal clips are applied.
Eyelid Surgery
In upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Waldman first marks the individual lines and crease of the lids in order to keep the incisions as invisible as possible along the natural folds. The incision is made and excess fat and loose skin are removed. Fine sutures are used to close the incisions, thereby minimizing the visibility of any incision.
Liposuction
As we age, certain areas of the body can accumulate fat that is hard to lose, in spite of a healthy diet and vigorous exercise. The neck is one such area. Fat deposits in the neck can detract from the appearance of the entire body, making a younger person seem older, or a fit person seem out of shape. Liposuction can give this area a new streamlined contour, enhancing the effect of facial features and improving the profile. Neck liposuction produces consistently good results, and has a particularly high satisfaction rate.
Breast Augmentation
Breast implants are intended to be permanent, but may require replacement for a number of reasons. Some patients dislike the outcome of their breast augmentation due to irregularities in the look and feel of the breasts. The breasts may appear too close together or too far apart, higher or lower than expected, or they may require replacement due to unforeseen complications and unexpected issues during the healing process. Infection and capsular contracture, where the body reacts to the implants and forms constricting scar tissue around them, will cause a firm feeling in the breast. Women may request a large cup size that their breast pocket cannot accommodate, causing rippling of the implants that may be visible. Most patients who undergo breast augmentation seek a large yet natural bust, and these effects can lead to an artificial look.
Breast Reduction
If you are a man who has excessively large breasts, you would be a potential candidate for the male breast reduction procedure. Also, you would be a good candidate if you have excess or sagging tissue in your chest area after losing a large amount of weight.
Breast Lift
Mastopexy, or breast lift, is an operation designed to lift and contour breasts that are of abnormal shape. Most mastopexy operations are performed to correct drooping or “ptosis” of the breasts.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is the official name of the operation that improves the appearance and/or function of the nose. It involves removing any “excess” bone or cartilage while refining the appearance of the rest of the nose to bring it in harmony with the other features of the face. Like faces, every nose is different; some noses are too long, some too wide, some have large humps, some project away from the face, and some are too small.

If your upper lips are elongated and cover a large portion of your teeth, it can make you feel self-conscious about smiling. For patients who would like a wider smile with increased teeth show, the sub-nasal lip lift procedure can be a good solution. A sub-nasal lip lift removes a portion of the skin under the nose and gently lifts the skin to reshape the Cupid’s bow and create a lifted appearance. The plastic surgeons at Waldman Schantz and Turner Plastic Surgery Center are pleased to perform sub-nasal lip lifts in our Lexington, Kentucky facility. Thigh Lift
Many people who have lost a large amount of weight find that sagging skin from the thighs camouflages all their hard work. This tends to happen most often when the weight is lost quickly, and the skin is unable to retract and re-contour over the newly-slim thighs. Even after losing weight, patients seeking thigh lift typically feel self-conscious about their appearance due to loose skin and pockets of stubborn fat in the thigh area.
Face Lift
Hand rejuvenation combines minimally invasive procedures including volume restoration and skin resurfacing. In the current climate where anti-aging procedures such as facelift are common, the hands are neglected and the only remaining telltale sign of age. Characteristics that are treatable with minimally invasive procedures include the bony appearance, visible tendons, visible/prominent veins along with skin pigmentation changes and wrinkles.
Neck Lift
As the name implies, this is virtually just a smaller version of the full facelift. Typically this is a procedure which we recommend for the 35 to 50 year old patient who is concerned mostly about loose skin along the jawline and less about skin laxity involving the mid to lower portion of the neck. It allows Dr. Waldman to lift the lower 1/3 to 1/2 of the face significantly with very little down time. During the procedure, Dr. Waldman makes a short incision in front of the ear allowing him to re-suspend the tissues under the skin. He then removes the excess and re drapes the overlying skin to smooth out the wrinkles and redefine the jaw line. At times we also will combine the mini-lift procedure with neck liposuction under the chin (submentum) or under the jaw line in the upper portion of the neck. Use of a silastic chin implant is also another option in some cases. The result of this surgery is a younger, fresher looking face with less recovery time than the traditional lower face and neck lift.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is a procedure in which excess fat and/or skin is removed along the upper or lower lids. These areas may exhibit wrinkles, loose skin, and bulges due to either heredity/genetics or the aging process. Pouches or bags of the upper and lower lids are generally due to herniations of the fat normally located in the eye socket.
Abdominoplasty
An abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, is a cosmetic surgical procedure to resolve sagging skin, stretched out muscles, and excess fat in the abdomen. The traditional tummy tuck targets the entire abdominal area, and typically involves repositioning the belly button and tightening the abdominal muscles if they have separated. Unwanted fat is removed, and excess skin is trimmed. It is an extremely effective procedure that can smooth and flatten the entire abdominal area. A mini tummy tuck is a slightly less intensive version of this procedure.
Body Lift
Any surgical procedure involves risks and potential complications. As with any surgical procedure, bleeding and infection can occur and a careful assessment of the potential risks and benefits must be made preoperatively during the consultative process. Aesthetic complications such as irregularity and waviness of skin or fat can occur. Fortunately complications are uncommon and most patients are satisfied with their results following a body lift.
Breast Surgery
Women who are not satisfied with their augmentation results or are experiencing breast implant complications may be eligible to undergo a secondary breast surgery to address their concerns. Healthy women who have sufficient tissue remaining in the breasts and are realistic about the expected results of revision surgery are ideal candidates for the procedure. In most cases, patients must wait until their breasts and surrounding tissues have fully healed prior to undergoing breast implant revision surgery. This requires about 6 months and ensures that the breasts have settled into their final position, since their appearance will change throughout the course of healing.
Otoplasty
Dr. Waldman performs all otoplasty procedures in the office’s state of the art surgical suite located in Lexington, KY. The operation is performed on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia.
Scar Revision
Lip Augmentation
Lip augmentation or enlargement is one of our most requested procedures. Common options for lip enhancement include the injection of filler material such as hyaluronic acid or even fat. Another option for lip enhancement is the sub-nasal lip lift or the vermillion advancement. Dr. Waldman is considered an expert for lip augmentation both surgical and injectable.

Laser Resurfacing
A blepharoplasty will not eradicate the wrinkles around the eyes (crows feet) and these are usually best treated by other means such as laser resurfacing or BOTOX
Gynecomastia
One of the most popular procedures for men in our practice is the Male Breast Reduction procedure. The Male Breast Reduction or Gynecomastia procedure is intended for men who desire a flatter chest with a more masculine contour. During this procedure, excess breast tissue or fat can be removed with liposuction, direct removal, or a combination of both.
Moles
Nevi (Moles) are a common occurrence on the skin, particularly for those with fair complexions. They can be genetic or the result of sun exposure, and are little more than deposits of skin pigmentations that form together on the top layer of the skin. The majority of these skin pigmentations will be harmless but they can be aesthetically unappealing depending on where they are located. Cosmetic radio frequency mole removal refers to the removal of skin growths and discolorations that are purely an aesthetic concern. For nevi that look a little more suspect and might prove to be something more, a punch biopsy nevi removal, shave biopsy or traditional excisional biopsy may be required. Keratoses can be either actinic (related to the sun) or seborrheic (related to the aging process) and are crusty growths that almost everyone will have at some point in their lives. Both nevi and keratoses can be removed with Radio-Surgery and there is no question that the cosmetic result is far superior to other techniques including excision and shaving without Radiosurgery.

Chin Augmentation
After having a chin augmentation the patient may go home with a small pressure dressing over the neck where the liposuction was performed. No dressing is needed for chin augmentation alone. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication and swelling, tenderness, and possible local numbness gradually subside within a month or two.
Forehead Lift
Dr. Waldman performs most forehead lifts in his In- Office, fully-accredited AAAASF Surgical Facility under local anesthesia with monitored intravenous sedation. Skilled nursing care is available to assist you following your forehead lift or other aesthetic procedure.
