My name is Megan Smith and I am now a 7th grade student living in Kentucky. My first 6th grade year was at Woodland Elementary and the teachers never helped me. I moved to Kentucky and had to repeat 6th grade at Tollesboro Elementary. The teachers here are VERY nice and caring and they help you with anything you have trouble with.
Plus I learned about things I've never even heard of at Woodland. Like, for instance, in science Mr. Pleasa, the science teacher, didn't teach us about cells like Ms. Davis, my 2nd science teacher, did. Also in language arts, Mrs. Soleman-Gray didn't teach us about literary divices, author's purpose, or propaganda like Ms. Myers did.
Another thing I did not like at Woodland was how the students never got in trouble for bullying. Mostly it was the popular students who bullied other students that weren't popular, like me. When I first went there in 3rd grade, I wasn't made fun of instead I was kind of popular because I was new. But when I finally chose my friends, I wasn't popular any more, just because my new friends weren't. Later in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade I got made fun of by people who used to be my friends. Really, if I ever told a teacher they'd tell me to stay away from whoever it was that was bothering me. But that didn't help and when I told the teacher again they would just tell me they will talk to them, but they never do and the bullying just continues.
I'm out of Woodland and thankful but also disappointed that when I look back on my very few good experiences, I remember my horrible ones. My little brother goes to a different Lakota School, Hopewell, and when I see him and ask about school he tells me how much he gets made fun of and how boring it is because there's nothing fun to do. At school you are supposed to beable to have fun AND learn at the same tme. But I realized something at Tollesboro, if you go to a Lakota School you won't beable to have fun because of the bullying and you can't learn anything because of the way things are taught.
I've been to 3 different schools during grade school and I'm sad to say the school I went to the longest period, Woodland, is the WORST of the 3.
Sincerely,
Megan Smith
