I was initially introduced to Mr. Poland by an acquaintance because of an alleged realestate theft that my mother was the victim of. one thing led to another and I ended up hiring Mr. Poland on a C.A.P.O. case aka (Crimes Against Police Officers) it was a totally bogus bust the cops tried serving a warrant on a holiday then lied in the report, further mentioning that an alleged informant was involved by name. calamity after calamity due to a strike prior Mr. poland thought it would best to do what no attorney would ever suggest. and that is taylor a deal between the prosecutor and the defense. what was taylored and I have to be brief that i would be on 1 year formal probation to drop to summary after the first year, and the remaining 4 of summary when it runs go back to court and recal the case vacate the conviction, dismiss the case vacate the strike and expunge the entire arrest record and court case. Spcl Prosecutor Geoff Lewin brother to the famous John Lewin cold case murder prosecutor. the bottom line I was being accused of preventing a deputy chief from being the next assumed chief of police this was a very high profile and political case. Mr. Poland pulled it off as if an average citizen was fighting a parking ticket, not a beat missed and smooth as smooth could be. Impeccable attorney but then again "sometimes you just need a good lawyer"
I wont ad a photo as it would just fuel things back up again and neither of us need that. since that case I am getting back on track to appeal the strike prior and the real estate theft case they are a big job I want to do as much of the what I know to take alot of the work out of it for Rich, otherwise it will be hours up on hours that if I can fullfill will make it easier on everyone. Federal court here we come hopefully

To Mr. Richard L Poland,
I know this is not the proper avenue to say all this.
It is personal and not at all related to
your office.
It is of Bob.
I am unable to compose myself and can not make a phonecall until today.
i tried few times though, from last year when I've found out about what happened.
It feels awkward and Im sure you may think Im a prankster.
I am mourning and still at lost.
I did called your office as this how Ive found out about Bob when I was not hearing from him.
I am only asking your permission so I may email you. I was considering a posted mail but afraid you may not read it.
This will help me if I may just have my message come across.
Bob was very dear to me.
I am still remembering him to this date.
I am Noreen, my email is [email protected]
I am from the Philippines.

I don't really understand the bad reviews at all. I had a totally different experience with Richard. We first meet because I needed his help with my tenant. My tenant was violating his lease and was being cited by the City of Long Beach numerous times and the tenant told me that he had hired Richard to represent him in a lawsuit against the City of Long Beach. Long story short, I contacted Richard and I thought he was one of the the nicest, most caring person I have ever meet. He offered to write a letter to the City of Long Beach and helped reduce the fines by $1000. Let me just say, he did it free of charge because he wanted to help me out and you just NEVER see this anymore. He is a really good person.

Richard Poland is a knowledgeable and competent attorney. Just check his bar record ( I did!) 35 years without a complaint. Additionally, his many years of practice have rendered him not only knowledgeable of the law itself, but of local courts, including the DA’s and judges that work in them. He has a real feel for reading a situation and advising his clients appropriately for their unique circumstances. In our experience he is by far the most attentive trial lawyer we’ve encountered and he does truly have a heart. Rich has always been there throughout our family’s lengthy court trials. He communicates clearly, is readily available and has a great bilingual support staff. I wish we’d never been in a situation where we had to get to know him, but since we did, I am grateful for all he’s done for our family. We highly recommend him should you find yourself in need of quality legal representation.

When we first found out my loved one, who is very young and had no criminal record, was going to need a lawyer none of us knew what was going to happen. When the family found Richard Poland everyone was still in shock, unsure of what came next. Rich explained everything every step of the way in language we could all understand. There was no grandstanding or trying to use legal terms none of us knew. He was clear and direct, letting us know what to expect and why he was doing certain things. He never made empty promises and was very clear about what my nephew was facing. When we saw him in action in the court he was assured without being cocky and was obviously at ease and confident. Anytime the court threw a curveball at us he was able to explain the situation and immediately had a plan of action. Rich is a very observant man and a quick thinker, you can tell that he takes in what is happening in front of him and assesses the situation. Watching him question witnesses in court was a real confidence builder; nothing that was said threw him off. During the worst time in my nephew’s life he treated him with respect and remained a calm presence during a truly chaotic time. We could not have asked for a better lawyer, and are grateful for him. Rich is a dedicated, hard-working man and his rates were reasonable. In fact there were definitely meetings we had with him that did not end up on he bill, not saying he won’t charge you but he is fair and he is definitely in this for justice, not money. I am happy to recommend him and am confident that if you find yourself in a situation where you need a lawyer that Rich Poland will do his best to represent you.

I can't believe that Richard Poland is a attorney. What a joke. The sad part is my father is a 60 year old man. My dad was arrested for the possession of medical marijuana. My dad has cancer and this was the first time he was arrested. The police said he resisted arrest. My dad didn't. I was a witness to what took place. My dad had the prescription for the medical marijuana. Richard Poland told my dad to plea guilty to the resisting arrest. Poland also said we need to hurry this trial along. Poland demanded my dad should do a speedy trial. Poland said I could get you off on the medical mariujana charge. It will cost you $9,000. My father agreed to pay Poland $9,000. Then 1 day before trial. Mr. Poland wanted an additional $2,548.92. Poland told my father that's for his travel time. Poland's in longbeach, and our case is in LosAngeles. Where did he come up with that amount is beyond me. I fired Poland and thank god I have money in the bank. I found a better attorney with more experience, and alot cheaper, and he was honest. Mr. Poland lacks honesty. My dad had all the charges dropped. I have been trying to call Mr. Poland's office but he keeps avoiding my calls. Right now I am in the process of having my dad report him to the state bar. We are going to sue Mr. Poland. For keeping my father's money and taking advantage of a elderly man who has cancer. I can't believe Mr. Poland would sink so low and keep my father's money and you didn't do anything. We didn't even go to trial. Anyone who is reading this. I would not hire this man.
There is not one shred of accuracy in his report. I did not represent this person. I never charged anyone $9,000, nor did I every quote a fee of $2,548.92. I am the easiest lawyer in the state to talk to. After business hours, all calls come to my cell phone. I get back to my clients and don't avoid anyone. Look at the state bar record. There are no complaints. There are no complaints because when you report someone to the state bar you have to use your real name. It's easy for someone to trash you on the internet with a fake name and story. If there's any truth to this, there's a reward offered to anyone who can substantiate anything written here, other than I am a lawyer.

May 09, I had the misfortune of being charged with a DUI and misfortune of
hiring Richard Poland as my attorney.
DUI is a very serious offence, but I thought I got lucky since my blood test showed
blood alcohol level of .06, and I thought I would walk.
Unfortunately the ambitious DA at the Compton court decided to go after me,
since my field breath tests showed
.078 and .082 (one over one under with .08 being the legal limit. ).
I had a very strong case, but Richard Poland recommended that I take a
plea bargain of Dry Reckless with full penalties of a DUI (same monetary
penalties and 3 month AA class! ). His reasoning was because:
WITH A DRY RECKLESS, THE NEXT TIME I'M PULLED OVER I WILL BE TREATED LIKE A FIRST TIME OFFENDER.
He assumed that I'm part of the statistic, and that there will be a next time!!
When I tried to discuss the issue with him he told me:
"even though your head is shaved and you have no hair, you are not
hearing me"... The last thing I need for my attorney is to talk down to me and
be condensing, when I'm stressed trying to figure out what to do on the spot!!!,
Specially on my first offence ever!
I decided to take the bogus plea deal, because Richard would charge me
another $3500 on top of the $2500 I already paid him to actually go to trial
and by this point I realized that he is not a very good attorney....
I would have done much better with a public defender, is what I hear....
and you should hire a public defender before Hiring Richard Poland.
(at least you will get a better plea with public defender and they won't talk
down to you )
Lastly for personal reasons I need extra time to complete my 3 months
A541 class and Richard is too lazy to ask the court for an extension.
PS. Do not hire this man, unless you like to be treated like a
idiot and talked down to. Sorry Richard not every client you have is a
uneducated Gang Banger...
A DUI is a very serious offense because it entails not only a loss of license, but it can act as the basis for increased punishment. Each DUI is treated more severely. The first is usually a fine, the second, a small amount of jail. The third carries a lot of local jail and the fourth offense gets you state prison. It is critical to keep the DUI or wet reckless off your record IF possible. In this case the client is correct, he had a .07/.08 on an admissible Preliminary Alcohol Screening (PAS) device. The problem was that he told the officers (the truth) that he had his last drink 2 and 1/2 hours prior to the driving. The means that at the time of the driving, his blood alcohol level was probably about a .11/.12 The math works out perfectly to blood test of .06 several hours later. The DA's know this. The offer of a dry (non-priorable) reckless was a GREAT DEAL. When the client signed the retainer, it was explained to him he base fee was $2,500 with an additional $2,000 for a jury trial. At that trial we would have to hire an expert witness for $1,500. Most lawyers with my track record and experience charge at least twice what I do. I was able to use my experience to get a very ungrateful and unaware client a great deal. The cost of going to trial exceeded the cost of the school and fine. There was no chance to lose by taking the deal. The DA said we could have this deal "Today and today ONLY." I explained that to client and told him that I was prepared to try his case. I've tried hundreds of cases and won the vast majority of them. He took the deal. He didn't like doing it, but it was the absolute best thing for him to do and he was lucky to get it. I'm sorry he thought I was condescending to him. Apparently, I over estimated his intelligence because he still doesn't understand how good a deal he got. Finally, I never refused to go to court and get him an extension to complete his program. I only wish he had the guts to leave his e-mail, or complain to me directly. It doesn't take much of a person to stab someone anonymously over the internet.
