Oral Cancer Screening
In the United States, oral cancer kills roughly 1 person per hour, 24 hours per day. However, oral cancer is also highly treatable when detected early. At Springfield Lorton Dental Group, we take a thorough and proactive approach when it comes to oral cancer. We include an oral cancer screening as a part of your routine dental exam. In addition to our advanced Velscope technology that detects the earliest signs of oral cancer, we also help patients understand the severity of oral cancer, their specific risk factors for the disease and how to identify the warning signs at home.

Dental Sealants
While brushing and flossing remain the best ways to clean teeth and prevent the onset of tooth decay, the chewing surfaces of back teeth often contain deep pits and grooves that trap food and bacteria. Therefore, even for individuals that commit to regular dental care, it is difficult to keep sticky substances and plaque from hiding in the crevices of back molars. For this reason, dentists place a high value on dental sealants as a way to safely and efficiently stop decay.
Space Maintainers
Since primary teeth guide the permanent teeth into place, infants with missing primary teeth or infants who prematurely lose primary teeth may require a space maintainer, a device used to hold the natural space open. Without a maintainer, the teeth can tilt toward the empty space and cause permanent teeth to come in crooked. Missing teeth should always be mentioned to your family dentist. Deep Cleaning
If you have been diagnosed with mild to moderate gum disease, we may recommend scaling and root planing as a first line of defense. This is a non-surgical treatment that is often referred to as a “deep cleaning” for your gums and teeth. Scaling and root planing may be performed on two quadrants of the mouth at a time. It is designed to remove accumulated dental plaque, tartar and bacteria beneath the gum line and around the tooth root, as these conditions can cause inflammation and disease within the gums. Frequently we combine local anti-microbial therapy in conjunction with the scaling and root planing in order to optimize the healing process.

Dr. Georges Traboulsi is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He received his DDS degree from Saint Joseph University and went on to complete an Oral Surgery Fellowship there. Flap Surgery
Traditional gum surgery procedure is also referred to as flap surgery, osseous surgery or pocket reduction surgery.
