Ear Infections
Do not put your child to bed with a bottle. This has been found to increase the incidence of ear infections and cause dental cavities and decay.
Flu Shots
VACCINE UPDATES: Flu shots (and Flu Mist for healthy kids 5 years and over) ARE AVAILABLE NOW! They are now recommended for everyone 6 months and over, with the “at high risk” patients getting first priority. These include children with asthma, diabetes, heart defects, and any child 6 months to 2 years old. Despite what many believe, you CANNOT get the flu (INFLUENZA) from the Flu Shot. However, only certain strains of flu are in the vaccine each year, and since this virus has a tendency to mutate, you could become ill with other “flu” strains or viruses that cause flu-like…
Immunizations
These are scheduled for 20 minutes in duration, but this is mainly doctor/patient time. Expect to be in the office longer than that for necessary paperwork and, usually, immunizations. Your baby’s first year is filled with well checkups, and, at minimum, we will be seeing him or her at 2 weeks, 2, 4, 6, 9, and 12 months. At these visits your baby will be weighed and measured, and these results plotted on a growth chart to assess your child’s physical development. Visits may also include blood work, urinalysis, and immunizations. Your child’s motor, social, and cognitive development will also be addressed at each check up.
