Parasites Treatment and Control
Heartworm is a deadly disease that pets can get from infected mosquitos. Because pets are vulnerable to mosquitos year-round, we recommend annual screening and year-round heartworm prevention for all dogs and indoor/outdoor cats.
Behavioral Disorder Treatment
Kittens require a series of several vaccines to protect them from contagious and fatal diseases and viruses. We recommend rabies, feline distemper, leukemia, and feline upper respiratory disease. The feline leukemia vaccine is recommended for all kittens, 1 year-old cats, and cats who are both indoor and outdoor. They will also receive several deworming treatments and stool checks to protect them from intestinal parasites.

Leptospirosis Treatment
Puppies require a series of several vaccines to protect them from contagious and fatal diseases and viruses. We offer all core vaccines for dogs – rabies, distemper, and parvovirus – as well as all electives vaccines that are administered if the patient has exposure risk – canine influenza, bordetella (kennel cough), lyme disease, and leptospirosis. Rattlesnake vaccines are available for patients considered at risk. Puppies are also evaluated for intestinal parasites with stool samples and routinely administered worming and other parasite preventatives.
Parvovirus Infection Treatment
Certain vaccinations must be administered to your furry friends. For dogs, these include rabies and DHPP vaccines. The DHPP vaccine helps protect against distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus. We also recommend lifelong heartworm prevention administered every month. When it comes to cats, the core vaccines include the feline distemper vaccine, which protects against feline herpes, calici, and panleukopenia. Just like dogs, your cats are required to receive a rabies vaccination.
Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
Our family has been with Dr. Herder for over 30 years. We have had dogs with many different health issues. Dr. Herder never stops trying to find solutions to help our beloved dogs. We recently lost a rescue dog from a problem that he had prior to rescue. Dr. Herder did everything possible to help us give him a longer life. We then rescued another little dog. Max came from out local shelter in Vallejo. He had an ear infection that the veterinarian the shelter used was treating but wasn't working. Dr. Herder took samples and found one ear had a yeast infection and one a bacterial infection. Max's ears are better after Dr. Herder changed the treatment. Over the years it worth the travel from Vallejo to Dr. Herder to get the best care we can for our beloved dogs.
Ear Infection Treatment
Muir Oaks Veterinary Hospital has been taking care of our dogs since 1997 and has always provided top quality care and treatment. Daisy our shepherd-mix and Shasta our golden retriever lived into their 15th years. Mulan our 6 yo rescue terrier-whipet has enjoyed excellent health since her 4th-month of puppyhood. An out of the ordinary situation ocurred while our son's laborador stayed with us for a month. Ginger had an ear infection that had been untreatable by Atlanta vetinarians. Dr Herder at MOVH identified the rare bacteria and provided the ear drops that solved the problem. Needless to say, my wife and I have complete trust in MOVH.

Hip Dysplasia Treatment
Laser Therapy by photobiomodulation is a non-invasive and safe treatment option to help heal damaged cells, accelerate healing, and reduce pain sensation. Laser therapy can be used for acute injuries such as sprains, strains, and stiffness. As well as for chronic pain such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, and intervertebral disc disease. Kidney Disease Treatment
Dr. Herder has been the vet for my last 5 cats over the past 20 years. She is quite knowledgeable and has provided the best possible care for each, and in their late years, ensuring their comfort but not prolonging the inevitable. The past 11 months have been particularly difficult. I lost my 2 baby girls (both 18 years) to kidney disease -- the most recent was 3 wks ago. Dr. Herder was gentle with them and helped me thru the experience. I'm grateful she understood my need to be with them. The staff and doctors at Muir Oaks have been comforting and understanding of my grief. Now it's just me and my little boy kitty, who was diagnosed with kidney disease just a couple of months ago. I'm comforted knowing that Dr. Herder is his doctor too.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Periodontal (gum) disease can lead to tooth loss and affects most cats before they are 3 years old. Bacteria from periodontal disease can spread to affect other organs and cause illness. One of the best ways to help prevent periodontal disease is to brush your cat’s teeth on a regular basis—daily, if he or she will allow it.

Once your pet has been diagnosed with cancer, the team at Muir Oaks Veterinary Hospital will determine the best treatment options. Depending on the type of cancer, its location, and how advanced it is, we may recommend one treatment or a combination of procedures. These may include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Each treatment plan is customized depending on your pet's needs.

Poisoning Treatment

Veterinary Surgery
Your pet should rest for the remainder of the day following surgery. Depending on the type of surgery, cage rest may be recommended for several days. If your pet is sent home with prescriptions, please finish all medication to ensure that he remains pain- and infection-free.
Spaying and Neutering
By spaying or neutering your pet, you'll be helping control the pet homelessness crisis. Your furry companion will also enjoy numerous medical and behavioral benefits. We perform these procedures under general anesthesia to ensure your pet is comfortable and free of pain.

Laboratory Services
If your pet is coming in for a routine scheduled surgery, an overnight 12-hour fast prior to the appointment is typically required. Water is okay until drop off. Plan on arriving early that morning for routine blood work and any other necessary diagnostics. When you arrive, a team member will go over the pre-surgical authorization form while also covering important electives for your pet’s comfort and health which will require your approval. This is an ideal time to ask any questions you may have about the procedure and/or recovery. At discharge you will receive thorough discharge instructions regarding post-op medications, what to expect from your pet, and when to return to the clinic for a recheck.
X-Ray

General Pet Care

Boarding
Dr. Herder was very personable and knowledgeable. Her assistant, the front desk and pet boarding staff were all very nice and helpful. The facility and the hours are great! The location and accessibility is super for my family.
Senior Pet Care
Your aging furry companion will need a veterinary visit at least twice a year to stay as healthy as possible. That includes a checkup to rule out issues commonly encountered by senior pets. Detecting problems in their early stages will allow for healthier senior years.
