Glaucoma is a potentially blinding condition where the pressure in your eye damages your optic nerve. Â Since the optic nerve carries the vision from your eyes to your brain, any damage to the optic nerve can be serious. Cataracts
Cataracts are a clouding of the natural lens of the eye. Â The natural lens is located inside of the eye directly behind the colored part of the eye known as the iris. Â The purpose of the natural lens is to provide the focusing power of the eye so that images are seen clearly. Â We are typically born with a clear natural lens, but normal aging of the lens causes it to become cloudy and more yellow or brown in color. Â This change typically happens slowly over time and leads to progressively worsening vision.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy occurs when the blood vessels in your retina are damaged from high blood sugar levels over long periods of time. Your eye doctor can see these when your eye is dilated for a retinal examination, but at SureVision Eye Centers we can take a laser digital photo of your retina, even without dilating your pupil. Â This allows you to actually see where the blood vessels are affected, and we can email a copy of these photos to your diabetes doctor, or even to you for your medical records. Â Just ask for an Optomap on each visit.

Reconstructive Surgery
There are lots of successful ways to treat glaucoma. Â At SureVision Eye Centers, our glaucoma experts have a wide range of options to eliminate or control glaucoma. Â For some, it may just be an eyedrop. Â For others, there is laser surgery that can be done in our offices, or in combination with cataract surgery. Â When glaucoma is particularly severe there is reconstructive surgery that we can use to add a new drainage channel to lower the eye pressure to a safe level.
