Cryotherapy
Cryosurgery, also known as cryotherapy, is a minimally invasive treatment that uses freezing cold temperatures to destroy abnormal tissue cells. These cells can include skin tumors, nodules, skin tags or prostate, liver and cervical cancer cells. Doctors apply nitrogen or argon gas either directly on the skin or through a cryoprobe with image assistance for internal tumors. The diseased cells cannot survive extremely cold conditions and will be destroyed. Cryosurgery has a shorter treatment and recovery time than surgical procedures. Talk to your doctor if you think you may be a good candidate for cryosurgery.
Pediatric Care
Parents should consider making a gynecologic exam appointment for their daughters between ages 13 and 15 and again before heading off to college, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. If a young woman is sexually active or has gynecological problems such as abnormal development, irregular periods and excessive hair growth, she should see a gynecologist regularly.

If you are referred to a specialist by one of our physicians, we will be happy to provide you and/or your primary care doctor with a referral. If you plan to see a specialist unrelated to your OB/GYN health you must obtain the referral from your primary care doctor.
Family Practice
Annual exams are recommended for women who are sexually active or over the age of 18. During the exam, the doctor will examine your breasts and pelvic organs for any abnormalities or changes. They will update your medications and order refills, update personal and family health history and order Lab test including a complete blood count (CBC), lipid panel (cholesterol), fasting glucose (blood sugar) and a urinalysis (UA). During a Pap smear, he or she will remove some tissue from the cervix to carefully examine as well. An annual exam is one of the most important steps you can take in preventing disorders of the pelvic organs. Our doctors will also evaluate and order health screening tests based on age and personal and family history such as a mammogram, bone density and colon cancer screening. Dr. Sumrall was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated high school in Lewisville, Texas. She went to medical school at University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and finished her residency at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson in 1992. She is licensed by the Mississippi and Texas State Boards of Medical Licensure. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and participates in yearly board recertification.

Cervical Cancer
A wellness visit is a once-a-year exam for a general health check, including a breast exam and pap smear. A yearly exam visit does not include discussion of new problems or detailed review of chronic conditions. Yearly pelvic exams and pap smears are important in monitoring your gynecologic health and screening for infection, inflammation or other abnormal cells that may indicate disease. We also provide care for high risk pregnancies along with our general obstetrical services. Your pregnancy may be deemed high risk if you have a pre-existing medical condition, multiple births or abnormal pregnancies that carry an increased risk of complications. Some conditions that may increase the risk of complications during pregnancy or delivery include diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, heart disease and more. Complications during pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes, premature birth or recurrent miscarriages will require more frequent visits. During your obstetrical care you will have the attention of all of our doctor.

Laparoscopy
Gynecological surgeries that once required large incisions and long recovery times are now being performed as minimally invasive procedures thanks to such innovations as laparoscopy and robotic assistance. These advances are allowing surgeons to perform their procedures through tiny incisions, using a camera and small instruments. This gives surgeons a clearer and more magnified view as well as more precise control than a traditional open procedure. The technology today makes procedures shorter and safer, and reduces recovery for the patient tremendously.

Lesions
Colposcopy is a procedure used to magnify certain areas of the body and help diagnose abnormalities. A vulvar colposcopy typically examines lesions on the vulva and is often used to identify cancer or HPV. The procedure is done with a colposcope, a microscope that can help identify malignant lesions on the vulva. It is usually performed as a follow-up procedure to an abnormal pap smear. The colposcope allows your provider to view the area at 10 to 40 times its normal size. If any abnormal cells are noticed, a biopsy of the tissue may be done. A colposcopy is a very safe procedure with few complications. Light bleeding or discharge for up to a week after the exam is normal.
