Infectious Diseases
Internal medicine veterinarians are qualified to perform advanced diagnostic services and create treatment plans for illnesses related to the internal body systems of animals. Our team will help diagnose and treat conditions of the GI system, kidneys, liver, heart, nervous system, endocrine glands, bladder, and respiratory systems. We also treat cancers, blood disorders, immune deficiencies, and infectious diseases.
Electrocardiogram
An EKG is a painless test used to diagnose cardiac abnormalities, such as an enlarged heart, heart murmur, congestive heart failure, or irregular heart rhythm. EKGs can also help determine if your pet’s heart is strong enough to undergo anesthesia and is often used as a pre-surgical test.
Immunizations
Pet Care Center recommends yearly visits for most pets and older pets coming in more frequently – at least every 6 months. Yearly exams include physical examinations by our veterinarians plus annual vaccinations or booster vaccinations, parasite screening & prevention and various lab tests performed.

Ophthalmologists

Glaucoma
This non-invasive diagnostic test measures the intraocular pressure inside your pet’s eye and is used to test for glaucoma and uveitis. Increased pressure in your pet’s eye can be dangerous and tonometry is an easy way to check the pressure without having to sedate your pet.
Ophthalmology
If you are concerned about your pet’s eyes or vision, we can help. Our ophthalmology team diagnoses and treats a variety of ophthalmological issues, including but not limited to, dry eyes, cataracts, corneal infection or trauma, and glaucoma. It is important to report any changes in your pet’s eyes or vision during your routine veterinary visits.

Dr. Erica Chartier was born and raised in Kenner, Louisiana and graduated from Grace King High School. She attended Louisiana State University earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. She continued her education earning her Master of Science degree in Calf Nutrition and Endocrinology in 2013, and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2018.

Ultrasound
Using sound waves, ultrasound technology allows us to generate images of your pet’s internal body structures, such as muscles, tendons, joints, internal organs, and blood vessels. Ultrasound images are often ordered alongside x-rays, to get a more complete picture of your pet’s health.
Radiology
Using radiography, we are able to produce high-quality diagnostic images of your pet’s tissues, organs, and bones. X-rays help us look for arthritis, broken bones, foreign objects, dental issues, enlarged organs, or respiratory dysfunction.

When it comes to orthopedic care, prevention, detection, and treatment of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints, and ligaments are an important and vital part of keeping your pet up, running, and healthy. In addition to a thorough physical exam, we use laboratory tests and radiological findings to determine the cause of your pet’s pain and/or the extent of their injury or illness.

Dermatology
After growing up in New Orleans and graduating from the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Dr. Erica attended Louisiana State University and received her Bachelor of Science degree in animal science. She continued her studies at LSU, receiving her Master of Science degree in Equine Endocrinology in 2000 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Her areas of interest include dermatology, endocrinology and internal medicine. Her particular area of interest is in atopy (inhalant allergy) and food allergy of dogs and cats.

She enjoys helping relieving pets of the discomfort from itchy skin, by allergy testing and treating their underlying skin disease. Dr. Erica still resides in uptown New Orleans with her husband Clay, son William, and her daughter Ellis, a Shih-Tzu named Ting-Ting and a Standard Poodle named Tayho. William, a budding animal enthusiast himself, has added a red-footed tortoise, a bearded dragon, and an assortment of fish to the household. Dr. Erica is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association.
