Dr Shaya performed a three level ACDF on my husband two weeks ago. The whole experience was good. We were only in town for a couple of weeks and he made time to see us at the beginning and was able accommodate us, including surgery and recovery, we didn't even have to change our plans. His bedside manor is excellent! He is confident, without being arrogant, he took time with us, to go over records, MRI's, answered all our questions and was able to put us at ease in a stressful situation. I had been to Mayo Clinic, twice, but in my experience, would recommend Dr Shaya for a fusion above them. He is caring and compassionate and so was the hospital staff at Aventura Hospital.

I'm 30 years old and have suffered with progressive nerve pain that started in right groin during 6th month of pregnancy 5 years ago. During that time, I saw dozens of orthopedic, pain management, and neurological physicians. They all had different diagnosis' and all advised me that the pain going down my leg is something I would have to live with and I shouldn't have anymore children. After discovering the Tarlov Cysts on an MRI, we researched and found Dr. Shaya. He personally responded to my emails almost immediately and we spoke several times on the phone. He made it to where we would only have to travel to see him one time for the surgery (if we felt comfortable after the appointment). After 5 years of unrelenting nerve pain, I woke up from surgery with the leg pain completely gone. Dr. Shaya also said he sees no reason we can't have another child. Computed Tomography
Often, the first symptom is a sudden severe headache. Most aneurysm patients describe it as the worst headache of their lives. A physical exam and a health history help to pinpoint the problem. If a brain aneurysm is suspected, special tests can confirm it. Test results help plan treatment, and can include a CT Scan, Spinal Tap and an Arteriogram.
Chemotherapy
After a craniotomy, medications are often prescribed to treat side effects and help you feel better. If you had surgery for a brain tumor, you may also have chemotherapy or radiation.
Radiation Therapy
The goal of radiation therapy is to slow or help control tumor growth. It uses painless x-rays to destroy tumor cells and can with other treatment. If your doctor has selected radiation therapy for you, you may have traditional radiation or sterotactic radiosurgery.

General Surgery
Dr. Shaya completed his medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and his general surgery internship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He obtained his neurological surgery residency and spine fellowship from Louisiana State University. While in residency, he published extensively on spinal disease and brain tumors. He has presented topics at many national and international neurosurgery meetings. He developed a grading system for hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage and authors neurosurgery textbooks which are used extensively by neurosurgeons everywhere.
Sciatica
Sciatica is a condition caused by compression or trauma of the sciatic nerve and common during pregnancy. Sciatica is made worse when you cough or if someone lifts your leg up while you are laying down. Symptoms may begin abruptly or gradually, are usually irritated by movement, and worsen at night.
Whiplash
Brain Injury - This can result from a direct blow to the head or even whiplash. It can cause tearing, bleeding, and swelling of the brain. The treatment goal is to stop any bleeding and reduce pressure. Blood and damaged tissue may be removed.

I had an operation with Dr. Shaya in September for lumbar spinal stenosis. Before the surgery, I had terrible pain for 5 weeks and the pain in my legs was unbearable. I saw Dr. Shaya in consultation and shortly thereafter I had my surgery. I was enrolled in aquatic therapy after I was discharged from the hospital. Now I am working again and walking without a cane.
