Business Transactions
The IP attorneys in the IP Transactions Group at Andrus have both an in-depth understanding of intellectual property issues, and the drafting and negotiation expertise to capitalize on that knowledge in complex commercial transactions involving all types of intellectual property. Trade Secrets
Joseph D. Kuborn is a registered patent attorney and partner at Andrus Intellectual Property Law. Joe focuses his practice on domestic and international patent and trademark prosecution and strategic analysis related to product development and discoveries. He is experienced in the areas of intellectual property enforcement and infringement studies. He also counsels clients on trade secret protection and copyrights and has experience with drafting and negotiating technology transfers, license agreements, and confidentiality agreements. Intellectual Property
In 1941, Merle E. Sceales joined the firm and the firm subsequently became known as Andrus & Sceales. By 1952, Glenn O. Starke and Eugene R. Sawall had joined the firm and the practice continued to grow. In 1968, the firm was renamed Andrus, Sceales, Starke & Sawall. In 2013, the firm became known as Andrus Intellectual Property Law.
Unfair Competition
AMERICAN ORTHODONTICS CORPORATION v. U.S. Orthodontic Products, Inc., No. 20-CV-4402 (C.D. Cal.). Represented client American Orthodontics in patent infringement and unfair competition case involving orthodontic bracket systems. Matter was settled in 2020, including entry of consent judgment in favor of client and entry of permanent injunction.
