Dr. Maureen Thornborrow graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. After growing up in Madison, Dr. Maureen attended to University of South Carolina where she earned her BS in Marine Science. She returned to Madison for veterinary school where she met her husband, Mark. After graduation, she and Mark moved to Green Bay, WI where she practiced emergency medicine for several years before moving into general practice. After owning and eventually selling their own practice, she and Mark moved to the Northwoods with the intention of retiring but found she missed the animals and medicine too much to stay away. Dr. Maureen especially enjoys veterinary dentistry, internal medicine, and preventative care. When not working she enjoys snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, and hanging out with her two Dogue de Bordeaux, Rubi and Monty.

Overall

The Best!

They have taken care of three of my dogs with compassion and the best of care. One of them was diabetic and blind and the other has multiple allergies. I can't say enough good things about the excellent care my four legged babies have received and continue to receive there.

Vaccination
To keep all our patients as healthy as possible, we require pets that are boarding with us to have current rabies and distemper vaccinations, along with other species-specific vaccinations. Please call us for more information.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
Dr. Theuerkauf is originally from Menominee, Michigan, where he grew up in a large family working on the family farm. He attended Michigan State University, receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1985. He has enjoyed practicing veterinary medicine for Northwoods Animal Hospital after joining the team in 1987. He appreciates the multiple facets that general practice offers with particular interests in ophthalmology, soft tissue surgery, and preventative medicine. Dr. Dave and his wife Audrey have three children, and they all enjoy the year-round outdoor activities the Northwoods has to offer.

We believe annual wellness care is imperative to keeping your pet happy and healthy! Your pet’s health is important and preventive care is necessary. We recommend wellness exams, keeping your pets on a vaccination schedule, and working with us on all facets of wellness care.

Karen started her profession as a licensed veterinary nurse in Colorado in 1998. She studied veterinary medicine at the University of Washington - Madison and moved back to Wisconsin in 2007 with her family, where she joined Northwoods Animal Hospital in 2008. Karen appreciates every part of her career and has a passion for progressive medicine, quality care, client education, and pain management. She also grew to enjoy all aspects of the business while taking on various roles. She loves spending time outdoors year-round, downhill skiing, water sports, wildlife, and doing art in her free time. The majority of her time is spent with her son, teaching him about the world and exploring it through nature!

Anal Gland Infection Treatment
When you trust our animal hospital with grooming services, you can always expect your pet to receive quality, compassionate care. Whether your pet is just here for a quick bath, nail trim, anal gland expression, or more extensive treatment, such as a medicated bath, de-matting, ear cleaning, or a sanitary clip, our veterinary team will always treat your pet as one of their one. We also offer mild sedation (given at home before the appointment) for those fur-babies that stress easily. We strive to keep your pet as comfortable and relaxed as possible throughout the grooming appointment, and we’ll give you a call as soon as your pet is ready to be picked up.

Dr. Theuerkauf has a particular interest in various eye procedures and ocular surgeries, including cherry eye repair, v-plasy procedure, entropion surgery, and corneal gridding. His years of experience, combined with continually keeping up-to-date on procedures through continuing education, will help keep your pet’s eyes healthy and pain-free!
Veterinary Surgery
Dr. Brian Theuerkauf is originally from Minocqua, Wisconsin, and is Dr. David Theuerkauf’s son. He attended the University of Wisconsin- Madison School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in the spring of 2021. His primary interests are in internal medicine, preventative medicine, and soft tissue surgery. Brian and Hannah moved to the Northwoods with their cat, Moe, where they enjoy the outdoor lifestyle and year-round activities.

Laboratory Services
Blood work and urinalysis serve multiple purposes, including diagnosing disease and determining the health of your pet. Yearly tests will check your pet’s organ functions and help define the general health of your pet, including potential problems that are often not visible during a physical exam. Obtaining baseline bloodwork and a urine sample when your pet is healthy provides invaluable baseline information that we can compare to whenever your pet is sick in the future. Regular testing also allows for early detection and monitoring for changes, especially as they age.

We are a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care. We also offer boarding and grooming services for your convenience.
Grooming
We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house X-ray capabilities, ultrasound, ECG, blood pressure monitoring, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and indoor boarding kennels with outdoor walking areas and grooming services.
