        WNEP is the ABC local television affiliate that provides news, programming, entertainment and information to residents of the greater Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pa., area. The station, which broadcasts on channel 16, signed on the air in January, 1953, as the first television station in the area. Its is best known for its newscasts, which are among the highest rated in the United States. The station runs its newscasts under the name 'Newswatch 16.'
