Established in 1905, US Forest Service is an agency of the Department of Agriculture that manages public land in national forests and grasslands that encompass more than 190 million acres. It operates a fire and aviation management division that is a group of people who work to advance technologies in fire management, suppression and tracking systems. The agency issues passes and permits for activities, such as hiking, biking, skiing, camping, bird-watching, pleasure driving, mushrooms harvesting and firewood gathering. US Forest Service is certified by the 310-1 Wildland Fire and Prescribed Fire Qualification System. It works in partnership with land grant universities, environmental nonprofit organizations and the private sector.
