Takoma Tree Experts, LLC. will use a crane on occasion to remove very large, unstable or fallen trees. Under normal conditions our climbers can rig ropes throughout a tree to lower limbs safely. When a tree has been severely damaged by wind or other processes, or is fallen, leaning or precariously perched on a roof, or is just very large, and normal tree removal procedures won’t work, are time consuming or are risky, a crane is called in.
Stump Grinding and Removal
Estimates for stump grinding can sometimes be given over the phone, and are usually fairly accurate-just measure the diameter of the stump at its widest point, call us and we’ll ask some quick questions-such as access, location in the yard (rear, side, front), age of the stump (to try and determine decay) and type of tree (if known). Phone estimates are non-binding, but if you are considering stump removal, it’s a place to start.

Storm Damage Cleanup
Once you sign, most standard jobs can be done within two business weeks, sometimes in just a day or so, depending on our work load, size of the job, and other factors. All jobs are performed weather permitting. We strive to start and complete jobs in a timely fashion, however bad weather, periods of sustained storms or storm damage can delay a job. We can rush jobs if need be, and if you are in a particular hurry. Of course emergency work takes precedence and we will usually be on site for an emergency situation within a couple of hours.
Takoma Tree Experts, LLC. can prune your trees to keep them healthy, invigorated and beautiful. Selective pruning of a tree is a highly skilled endeavor, and must be performed by only the most experienced and highly trained personnel. That’s why it’s called tree surgery- implying a certain level of expertise, knowledge and applied skills-and much like surgery, a botched job is well… not pretty. After all, if the wrong limb is cut off or the tree is unbalanced in the pruning process, little can be done to correct it, or improve the appearance, although restoration pruning can be attempted. We follow and adhere to all ANSI A-300 pruning practices and protocols as well as those of the ISA, TCIA and other leading arboricultural organizations.
Tree Maintenance
In some jurisdictions performing tree work without a license is illegal – there is good reason for this. An unlicensed tree service hasn’t invested the time, effort, and dedication to learning and training in the field of arboriculture (Please note there are actually some specific cases of Maryland Licensed Tree Experts who were given their licenses in an amnesty program in 2007, and unlike a traditional LTE didn’t have to fulfill the usual exam requirements or prove competency. Although licensed and regulated, their knowledge, practices and experience are often closer to an unlicensed individuals-read more below and in our FAQ’s section). They may recommend or perform practices and procedures for your trees which may be harmful (topping for instance), or not know or care about the best times or methods to prune certain species of trees.
Arborist Services
If trees are not maintained properly, a hazardous condition can develop and go unnoticed. Trees should be periodically pruned and inspected by a qualified climber and/or arborist who can advise you of any cracks, splits, cavities, decay and other conditions he/she observes.
Land Clearing
We can even clean and flush your gutters, making sure the downspouts are clear and flowing-important, because if they are clogged, water will back up and run out of the tops of the gutters and down along your foundation, which could cause foundation damage. We recommend gutter cleaning at least twice a year-in the fall after leaves drop and again in the spring.
Tree Mulching
Normally, we leave the resulting stump grindings mulch-which mixes with topsoil, in the grinding process, backfilled and mounded in the resulting stump hole-however, for an extra charge, we can haul it and deliver and install soil and seed or even a new tree or bushes if you wish.
Snow plowing isn't cheap and is usually considered to be emergency work, but the inherent value realized from hiring an experienced, fully equipped and properly insured company-with both workmen's comp to protect our crews and liability to protect your property and passersby, pales in comparison to the issues that come from not properly maintaining a property during a snow and ice event- just a few examples: slippery, hazardous lots and/or walks, difficult egress, perhaps loss of revenue at a retail establishment or shop...the list could go on and on.
